Before anything else, make sure you know all the restrictions on what you can and cannot bring into the country. Many otc drugs are banned. Also, ensure that you do not eat any rolls covered with poppy seeds immediately prior to entry, for obvious reasons. The authorities are very zealous regarding drugs, both legal and illegal.

Dubai is...one word...incredible. You can spend a week there and not see everything. Just some random thoughts:

* Taxi's are plentiful and relatively cheap in Dubai. There is, however, a surcharge of 25Dirham for using the taxi's out of Port Rashid, the cruise terminal. Two ways to save money on taxi's: There is a free shuttle that will take you to a smaller mall, the Mercato Mall, you can take the taxi's from there and not have the surcharge...or share taxi's with other passengers.

* Yes, the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world (for now, they are building one even bigger in Dubai), is worth the money to go up. It is expensive to go all the way to the top...you can however, go to the 125th floor (about $30 online) and see a stunning 360degree view of Dubai.

* Adjacent to the Burj Khalifa is the world's largest mall,, the Mall of Dubai. It is simply a "sensory overload"...you have to take the time to walk around and see it...yes, it has a massive indoor aquarium. Outside the mall is the "Dancing Fountain" much like the one at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. You can watch the fountain show with the Burj Khalifa in the background.

* Metro...easy to use, cheap, and clean.

* Mall of Emirates...this is "smaller" than the Mall of Dubai, but it has the indoor skiing. You can take the metro from the Dubai Mall to the Mall of Emirates.

* As previously said, there is the Burj Al Arab. You can take a taxi to Jumeirah Beach and you'll have a full view of this magnificent building. You can swim, boogie board, or surf while you're at the beach. Fun to see the tourists wearing skimpy clothing and locals covered from head to toe.

* And if you like gardens, there's the Dubai Miracle Garden...simply breathtaking...google it and you'll see what I mean.

Happy Sailing! :)
