We have got 3 free speciality restaurants included in our booking, but are also platinum lattitudes members so get 2 more free with that. Does anybody know if it is possible to book all five at the 90 day mark and not be charged anything or does it cause confusion. Many thanks.

You can certainly book the 3 you got for "free" at 90 days. I don't know about the ones you got for being platinum. We got one extra free from our TA, and I booked all four at the 90 day mark. The key is to book the restaurants in the proper order, not necessarily in the order them. Book the ones with a set cover charge first (such as Moderno). The system will assume that you are going to use your dining plan for those, even if you book them for the last 2 nights of the cruise. Then book the a la carte restaurants (such as Cagney's). If you book a set price restaurant prior to the cruise, you get charged (but if you have a dining plan, they assume you are going to use that). For the a la carte restaurants, they do not charge you in advance because they don't know how much you are going to spend.

To recap: at 90 days, book your dining times. Book set-price restaurants first, then a la carte restaurants.

Keith Jenner sorry to say your guide is now out of date owing to changes to latitude tiers. We are sailing on 'The Jade' in June and are Platinum latitude members, we have sucessfully booked Cagney's because as has been mentioned they do not know what we are going to order, however we cannot pre-book Moderno without paying as there is no link to using a voucher and we definately do not want to put to the test getting a refund when on bord. I have rung NCL and all they say is you cannot book a cover charge restaurant without paying. The trouble is free meal packages are being given out and so restaurants fill up more quickly making it harder to use platinum vouchers.

You need to read the whole thread. Specifically this post:

The biggest impact is due to Moderno not being a la carte. This means that if you don't have a dining package and want to use Moderno as one of your platinum latitudes meals then you will have to decide between pre booking it (and having to pay when booking) or to wait until you get onboard.

I will rewrite the whole thing after my cruise next month, but for now, I think it does the job.

You will have no trouble booking Moderno onboard as long as you do it fairly early.

If you have three SDP meals and two Latitudes meals it's not difficult to book everything in advance without paying as long as the number of times you wish to dine in the flat charge restaurants, Moderno and Teppanyaki, is less than or equal to the number of SDP meals. Just book the (up to three) meals in Moderno and Teppanyaki first. The system assumes you are using the SDP for those (up to three) meals so you won't have to pay for them up front. Then book the remaining meals in the a la carte restaurants, and of course there will be no up front charge for them.

We've done this several times, including about three weeks ago for our cruise that starts this Sunday when we booked two dinners in Moderno (one for the first night of the cruise and one for the last night) first, and then booked two dinners in Le Bistro and one in Cagney's, all without paying . The key is to remember that you don't have to book the meals in the order of the cruise days. Book the flat charge restaurants first regardless of which days of the cruise you'll be dining there. We actually do it all in a single booking session, simply by putting the flat charge restaurants in the shopping cart first.

Before you actually dine you have to sort out which meals will be paid for under which plan, because if you're using a Platinum free meal voucher you have to hand it to the hostess when you arrive at the restaurant.

Just a thought;

Even though one may book 90 days out,

consider evening entertainment, such as conflicts with show times.

We booked 5 SDP and 2 Platinum perk dinners with no problem at the 90 day mark.

We were on 14 day ta so had plenty of time for total of 7 specialty restaurant dinners.

The standard a la carte restaurants never charge for booking (Paid Cash, SDP, or Platinum)

So,,,, the trick is to book any upcharge restaurants or fixed fee restaurants first. Book your Platinum Moderno first, followed by Teppanyaki, Ocean Blue, Bayamo, Cirque. The first 3 will ring-up free (or for the up charge for Cirque, OB, or Bayamo). The rest of the a la cart restaurants can be added with no charges. We just booked 7 nights (2 platinum, 3 SDP, 2 paid) with no problems (we paid the expected upcharges).

On board, for each meal, you tell the hostest if you have a special way you want to pay. E.g., present your platinum certificates.
