Miami port parking

Just curious if anyone has ever parked at the port the night before a cruise then just took a cab back to a hotel?

Curious why you would do that. Parking at the hotel would usually be free, while you are going to pay to park at the port.

PortMiami garages are locked down until the morning after the ships leave in the afternoon. No one in or out at night.

We want to stay downtown so we have a view of the port, but the parking I've found for the hotels there start at $35 per day. And it's valet only from what I understand.

It appears the OP has a major choice to make: if staying downtown is a priority then the hotel parking rate is necessary. The other choice is for a hotel elsewhere that may or not offer cruise parking.

We have another hotel booked with parking included. I was just checking out all options because we have new cruisers with us this time around.

The Doubletree Biscayne Bay and the Hilton Downtown both have stay & park packages with shuttle to (but not on return) the Port. The Intercontinental has rates that include parking (valet only as you saw) for the night you are at the hotel if you book direct with the property. Checking the current rates (outside of peak season) staying one night at the IC plus paying for parking at the port looks like a somewhat better deal than the packages from the two Hilton group properties as you can just hop in and go when you return.

Maybe if a ship is in port the day before your cruise go in the mid afternoon & park then

You might be able to catch the Trolley back out over the bridge or just catch a taxi to the hotel
