Fairfield Nana Posted August 11, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2017 Does anyone have recent experience with using UBER in places like Fairbanks, Haines, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan? Mainly interested in if they are readily available and reasonably priced? Thanks..
JT1962 Posted August 11, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 11, 2017 We were in Alaska in May and they were not operating yet. I believe Uber began operating in June and not sure when Lyft will begin. I would not be confident that they will be readily available in most ports yet. Also, apparently they are not allowed to go to Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau due to permit requirements. Straitlover Posted August 11, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2017 Does anyone know if they will be working in Denali around the lodges? I saw a post somewhere (Tripadvisor forums maybe???) that there is one Uber driver at Denali named Dave.

Northern Aurora Posted August 11, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 11, 2017 Uber and Lyft are both operating in the Fairbanks area. Once Governor Walker signed the legislation authorizing their operation one company had drivers operating within hours and the other a day or so later. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, our local newspaper, has a reporter who lives year round in the Denali area. She had heard reports of an Uber (I think it is Uber, not Lyft) driver in Denali, and she tracked him down. She did a nice article for the News-Miner. By now there could be more than one driver. AkSusan Posted August 12, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 12, 2017 Does anyone have recent experience with using UBER in places like Fairbanks, Haines, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan? Mainly interested in if they are readily available and reasonably priced? Thanks.. Read this week that Ketchikan was considering banning them. You can actually go on the UBER app or their website and put in a city, and, it will show you if it has service or not!
