Rare FlyerTalker Posted August 26, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2017 Which airport is better to fly into for a cruise out of Southhampton and is there public transportation to the port? Of course, this all depends on your definition of "better". If you mean "closest", there is Southampton Airport (SOU) which is about 5 miles from the cruise port. OTOH, there are no transatlantic flights into this airport. So you would need to connect somewhere in Europe. Yes, I know...details, details, details. Rare LHT28 Posted August 27, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 27, 2017 Look at LHR or LGW Yes there is transport to the ports Bus or train National Express bus has non stop buses from LHR depending on when you are arriving & when the cruise departs You could also fly Aer Lingus to SOU with a connection in Dublin as an option You might get better information on the local transportation on the British Isles forum http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
Flymia Posted August 28, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 28, 2017 I would just fly into one of the London airports. I took a cruise out of Southampton last May. Flew into LHR the day before, stayed the day in London as most flights arrive in the morning. Took a 11:30am Southwest train to Southampton from Waterloo, took about 90mins and cost $53.00 round trip. It was a bank holiday so the train was very very busy, which made the ride a little difficult with the large bags as the luggage only fits in the middle of cars. It was than a 7 pound 5min ride to the port. Was on ship by 1:30pm. There are trains every 20mins or so. There is also the national bus service takes about 2 hours+ but is cheaper and easier with the luggage. Going back, was easy as it was not a holiday weekend, train trip was great, and back in London in time for lunch. Flew out the next day.
Budget Queen Posted September 3, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 3, 2017 I have flown into, Heathrow, Gatwick and Southampton. Easy to the cruise port from all of them. I use National Express from London, and always have my travels extended with numerous extra days.
