Setting Up On Board Expense Account Question

Quick question!

I always use my credit card to set up my expense account and will do so this cruise. My question is how the best way to for my son and his finance to set up their accounts.

They plan on using cash plus 2 carnival gift cards from AARP and 1 prepaid visa card.

Will each one of them need to put down $200 in cash on individual accounts on embarkation?

When/how do they use the gift cards and visa card?

Would it be easier for me to add them to my credit card?

If I add them to my credit card, will Carnival use the gift cards and prepaid visa card first?

I hope I am explaining this so everyone can understand it and help me. Cruise at the end of the month.

Thanks in advance.

When they check in at the port, they can set up their cash account. They can apply all of their forms of payment at the port, at guest services, or using the kiosk.

There is no required minimum of cash to put on their account. The $200 is a recommendation.

I have always gave Carnival my CC to open the S&S account. When I get on board I go to guest services and put cash down and the cash is ALWAYS taken out and nothing has been charged to my CC. I do check my balance on the kiosk and add more cash IF needed

Didn't realize there wasn't a $200 amount to start with......good information. :D

Thanks hockey guru for your information. My travel OCD is feeling much better with everyone's helpful suggestions. :D

I'm probably just overthinking everything...this is their first cruise and I want everything to go as smoothly as possible.

I'm presuming the kids are in their own room... they can set up a cash account now. And they can avoid the hassle of applying the gift cards to their S&S account at check in or on board by using them now to buy Cruise Cash. And both of them can be set up to use the same account if they want. Just make sure they buy Cruise Cash, not Cruise Cash Bar or Photo...

If they have leftover money from the cruise cash they can always cash it out in the casino- technically Cruise Cash is use it or lose it, but if they have some money left, follow this process and they can get it back...

· Go to a slot machine in the casino, insert your S&S card and set up a casino account if you haven’t already (just need your name, DOBand your S&S card). Deposit the amount left in cruise cash into your casinoaccount (it always uses cruise cash first before any other money on youraccount).

· Once the money is in your casino account, you can playsome if you want. I didn’t bother after 1 spin- but I still won $5! Thenwe just opted to cash out on the slot machine. I took the S&S card to the casino cashier and toldher I wanted to cash out our account. They gave me the cash.

If they start to use up all the money on their Cash account they will get a note from Guest Services that they need to go add more funds to the account. If they run out, they will be declined service (to buy anything on their S&S card).

A prepaid credit card may not work. The gift cards and cash is the best. If they do not have extra funds for the cruise you may want to give them a gift of a certain amount of money but I would not use my credit card to backup other adults.

Just FYI I have used a prepaid credit card to pay for a few excursions for my upcoming cruise... I'm not sure if you'd have issues once on board, but I had no problem paying for things before the cruise.

I have never used a prepaid cc and neither have they. It was a gift to me and I in turn was giving it to them. LOL The Carnival Gift cards were mine and never used because I had to cancel my April cruise due to illness.

So would this be a better solution.......use the prepaid cc and gift cards to buy them cruise cash now?
