Hi, we are looking to book a cruise on the Grand Princess. We would be grateful for advise on which deck has the bigger balconies (if any). We will be sailing to Alaska so any advice as to the best deck would also be very helpful.

Many thanks clear.png?emoji-ship-1866

Aside from being in a full suite, the Caribe Deck balconies are the largest on the ship. They are half covered and half uncovered. The two at the very aft on each side also have an additional sq ft or two ... not really anything that noticeable, though.

After the Caribe deck balcony cabins, your next largest balconies are on the Dolphin Deck and Emerald deck mini suites with the last two cabins on each side of the ship having HUGE balconies, at least on the Emerald deck. The Dolphin deck balconies are completely uncovered so if for Alaska, my suggestion would be to try to get one of the Emerald deck mini suites if they are available and one of the last two if they are open. They are extremely popular so if you see an open one, snag it immediately!

There are also aft cabin balconies that have larger balconies but not sure if they are as big as those on the Caribe deck port / starboard cabin balconies.

Port & Starboard balconies

Balcony cat. cabins: Deck 10, 9'x9' with 5 ft covered and 4' uncovered

Balcony cat. cabins on other decks 9'x5' fully covered

Mini suites on deck 9, 9'x6', uncovered

Mini suites on deck 9 there are 12 of them, 9'x6' covered

Other info:

Full suites and stern facing cabins have various sized balconies.

We always select a cabin on a deck with cabins above and below us. Check deck plans for connecting cabins. Reports have been that with connecting cabins you can hear through the connecting doors. Some balcony cabins on the Grand do not have nightstands and have other not normal features. These special features are shown in red on the Princess.com deck plans when you click on a specific. There isn't much lounging around on balconies on an Alaska cruise, normally cool. The best views of sights is from the upper open decks and not from your balcony.

Caribe deck has the larger balcony. We will be going on the Grand in June of 2018 and made sure we got a larger balcony because some of our group would be traveling in interior rooms and we wanted the extra room plus we had just did the Crown in March and were jealous because we were on Baja deck (one above Caribe) and their deck was much larger.

Many thanks for your help. There will be 4 of us travelling, so that is something to think about.

Very grateful for your detailed response. We did wonder about how much we will actually sit out even in August . We did the fjord’s last year and found that as you mentioned, the best view points were on deck.

My mom and I got upgraded to one of those aft mini suites on the emerald deck - ours was a handicap accessible room with twin beds that DO NOT go together for a queen. Which was fine for us. Also, no tub since it has a roll in shower. Neither of us required that room. We received the upgrade about one week prior to the trip. The balcony was spectacular

Ok Baja and above is 38.6 SqFt, Caribe is 83.9 SqFt and Dolphin and below is 52.2 SqFt. Make your plans with this info. If you don't plan to use, why get big balcony. If you live outside don't get the small balcony.
