whoa! there is no particular "type" of people. i have just noticed that there is a greater majority of people that get revved up about the cruises that go out of florida. i don't sense as much excitement for the particular week we are going or from the boats that leave LA. last year we were on the valor and didn't find a lot of 20-30 year olds. it was families are larger retired groups, don't get me wrong we had a blast and laughed with everyone- i guess as the group organizer there is this mysterious pressure on me for everyone to have fun....

Ahhh...okay, gotcha. Based on that, you'll have a GREAT time. I agree with GLROUNDS - the layout is awesome. Fun atmosphere, always something to do :) Of course, I was on the Pride on my honeymoon, so I can't say I remember too much save the inside of my cabin :) oops, TMI

I agree with SGR......we wouldn't being going on the Mex Riv cruise (for the 3rd time) if it wasn't a great time! We have found the staff to be wonderful and cruisers of all ages (including many 20-30 range) that all know how to have a fantastic time. And really......isn't vacation what you make it to be? Have FUN!!

Only thing to remember is there is no such thing as a bad cruise, just some are better than others, and some people more critical. My 'worst" cruise was only bad because customer service sucked before we even left dock, but we just decided, we would have fun no matter what, and we did. Just plan to have fun. My friends and I are on the Pride this Feb, my first Mexico cruise, except the catalina Island/ Endsenada quickie, and I am looking forward to a differant itenerary, crew and passangers. If you are there look for 4 crazy old ladies having a good time!!!!

That explains a lot right there!

This is our third cruise and the 'Roll Call' on both of the Caribbean cruises had a large group of people and much discussion and 'excitement'. On our upcoming Pride 'Roll Call', which we are sailing on in March, we have only had a few people post, and most only once. No discussions, plans, discussions of ports, etc... as has been the case in past cruises.

Hopefully it will get a little livelier once the holidays are over... but I am not holding my breath.

Alot of people get depressed after they leave, big i beat that by going straight to Las Vegas for a few days immediately afterward :D

Just got off the Pride on the 11th. Bearing in mind that this was our first cruise, I found the Pride to be absolutely beautiful. I loved every minute of this cruise, and am still in withdraws 2 days after disembarking. I thought the layout was very nice and easy to navigate. The artwork and the detail in the ship astounded me. The staff was great, and Chris, the Cruise Director, was wonderful.

The highlight of our trip was the staff. Our steward, Marut, was absolutely great. He greeted our 3 year old daughter almost every night in the hallway with open arms and a hug. As soon as he would see her, he dropped what he was doing and opened his arms to her. She would run to him for a big hug, then he would carry her to our room to show her the towel animal he had made for her before we even made it there. Just wonderful.

I hope you have a wonderful time. The day we disembarked, I found myself severely depressed. More so than I have ever been on a vacation. Enjoy every minute of it.

  • 5 years later...
I love the Spirit class ships, these ships never seem crowded (like Conquest). On the Spirit I had room 6224 which had an extended balcony. On Pride I had room 7143 which had a regular balcony. I really did not notice the difference in balconies.

The only thing I did not like about the Pride was the decor. It is very dark (Old Masters theme) and dreary. The Spirit was so bright and whimsical that when I went on Pride, it was depressing.

Do you remember what was across the hall from 7143? On the deck plans it's blocked out and probably used for the room stewards, which would be okay. We were once across from a passenger laundry on the Disney Magic and it was a nightmare!

I am thinking of booking the Pride for April 2012 and saw this thread.

I started reading it and was very confused.

It talks about Mexico:confused:

Then I noticed the thread start date...2005:eek::rolleyes:

The Pride used to sail off the left coast, to Hawaii and the Mexican Riviera. Glad she is now in Baltimore, only a 3 1/2 hour drive for us. And by the way, she is a wonderful ship. We had cabin 7129, an 8d balcony on the Verandah deck, and it was excellent. We will sail her again!

Our family went on the Pride for our very first cruise last April (Easter Sunday/Spring Break). I'll agree the decor had slightly darker muted colors, but it never brought me down - I thought it gave it a more "stately" air about it. The ship was well taken care of, but had small areas that I wish had been improved upon during its recent dry dock (boobtubes upgraded to flat panels and the addition of the seaside theater sure would've been awesome)!

I loved our room! I thought Kirk (the entertainment director) worked hard and had a great sense of humor. Sure they're (can't remember his partner in crime's name) over the top and have limitless energy, but I'd rather fault them on that over the opposite.

As for the crowd, it was such a mix of demographics, personalities and ages. For the most part, everyone was very laid back with the exception of long waits at Mermaid's food lines, and Camp Carnival's pick up/drop off lengthy waits.

We enjoyed the cruise so much that we've just booked another one on the Pride for 9/11.

I couldn't DISAGREE more with tef. (sorry)

I think the Spirit Class ships have the ideal layout. My favorite location, the aft lido deck. Open to the sea 270 degrees with an adult pool, a bar, and just steps away from the Lido buffet. One can relax on this aft deck and enjoy the sea (one of the main purposes for cruising for me). The double promenades with slight curves in them, taking away the long long hall look, just add more to their class.

Other larger Carnival ships have the Lido deck surrounded with steel and glass. Must move up a deck from the lido to get to the "open" sea. No bars, no food, no fun there, useable only for just reading or napping. The amphitheatre-style forward Lido deck is ugly IMHO and an incredible waste of a great space. :(

I also really like the 2 storey disco with the spiral staircase. Great setup, fantastic sound and almost everyone has a terrific view of the dance floor.

It seems there are never any lines on the Spirit Class ships and a smaller complement of passengers makes her the ideal size for me. :)

The enlarged artwork of the masters throughout the ship only adds to the beauty and glamour of this vessel.

I agree completely. Been on the Valor (1st cruise, absolutely loved it), Miracle (2nd cruise...realized what I missed out on the first one), and now twice on the Pride. My favorite was the Miracle because of the decor over the Pride but I am sorry, I think the thought of not being able to go straight through a deck because of the galley (on the Valor) was odd. Give me a chance to only sail Spirit class and I will take it...hands down.

I was on the Pride last week 1/16/2011 - 1/23/2011. This was my first cruise I am already planning my second cruise. I loved the lay out and size of the Pride. Sunday walked around the ship to find my way, Monday half way through the day and I was good for the week. I could find my way from then on. I will say this I did not care if I did get lost it was all a great adventure for me and I knew if I did get lost it would be fine because no one was going to leave without me I was on a ship no where to go to be left behind.. lol

I like this class ship and feel it is not too big but it is big enough that I never felt like I was in a crowd. A full ship no rooms available on the ship and I had my own space.

We were there 1/9/11 - 1/16/11.

2nd Pride cruise, 4th spirit class ship cruise. Significantly more comfy than Dream or Freedom.....agree, you just never feel crowded. (Dream especially crammed in all areas......sardine city).

Reasonable # of passengers, and attractive ship layout that feels welcoming as you wander around through the week . And for whatever reason, crew that appears to be under less pressure in their job !

Go for it !

I've been on the Pride twice, Miracle once and the Legend once. I feel like home now on the Spirit class ships. I know where everything is and it so simple to manuever. Going on the Freedom next and I am going to miss that "I'm home" feeling.

I love being able to drive to our cruise. This was our third cruise. We've sailed on Royal Caribbean, NCL and Carnival. RCI had the largest ship, NCL had the smallest and Carnival was mid sized. I loved each experience for a different reason. The Pride is a very comfortable ship with a crew that loves their job. Our 10 month old grandson and 6 month old great niece went along and were stars! The crew care very much for children... which I totally appreciate. I didn't mind the decor and actually found it glamorous. Our daughter was married aboard and all of her pictures had gorgeous backgrounds! I was a bit leary of the comments I'd heard about Carnival. We were very impressed with the quality. I don't like the itinerary.. but we didn't take this trip for it's stops!

We have sailed the Pride 3 times and have a 4th cruise booked (and I have also been on the Victory, Triumph, and Paradise). I really like this size ship. Have found the staff to be excellent, in particular the wait staff and cabin stewards, Camp Carnival staff, overall many friendly and kind people. They treat our todder wonderfully! We sailed once out of Cape Canaveral, and can now drive to Baltimore easily so are doing that - though also not nuts about the Bahamas itinerary that is what we have been choosing - just easier and cheaper than flying to Florida.

I like the mini golf course, Steakhouse, Mermaid's lunch is very good (salads, Chinese, desserts, pizza), and comedy club.

We got upgraded last minute to an aft balcony last cruise and it was a nice size, and great room layout with the sofa.

Only areas for improvement was 1 comedian not good, another using same material as previous cruise, and a lot of little tiles missing from pool areas, which hopefully were replaced while in dry dock. oh and smoke in casino, but what can you do? (Avoid it)

What did you like, dislike about the Pride? How are the balconeys?

Just came off Pride 1/16....

My first on this ship and I loved it...disliked nothing at all. Great service and food, entertainment...it all works.

Loved the design and decor: beautiful Renesaince murals all over, lovely glass sculpting and art all over. Sunset Garden was one of my favorite places - huge desinged portholes, comfortable seating...a great place to "get away" from it all and read a book....

I've also been on the Spirit Class Miracle which is sister to Pride. I've sailed her 4 times - she's one of my faves.

I will take the Pride again, for sure...but not in the dead of winter, I think. It was colder'n heck all the way down (acutally has snow on second day)...cold in Florida and cold in the Bahamas...but we loved it anyway and about the end of 3rd day could enjoy balcony....

We were in an extended balcony on Panorama....loved it. Like other of Carnivals cabins, it was roomy, compact, warn and inviting....

Normally I just buy a standard balcony which has all the same amenities but got such a good deal on extended, couldn't turn it down.

I didnt like the casino layout. You can smoke in the casino and for nonsmokers you have to walk thru the casino to get to the theater. I also did not like the decor. Very dark.

I would have to agree with you, the only other thing that i could say would be the layout of the buffet. Other that that i found the ship to a very is ship to get around. My fmaily had a great time on her and would sail on her again.:)

Great ship, Cabin, get a extended balcony. Do the itinerary with HMC. The other one does sort of suck, but its cheaperm we did that 2 times and HMC 1. The one with HMC is always a couble hundred more

We cruise during our sons Spring break and the week we need is not HMC

itineary. :(

We were on this ship 9/11/10 and the vibration was quite strong. Other than than loved the ship as I do the Miracle and the Legend. So many positives on the layout. It's the right size for us-not too big plus it has many of the features the the bigger ships. Also driving to the port is great. Did do the HMC trip, it was very nice as our group rented the Oasis.

Right now in Akron OH, it's snowing. I'm sick of snow. Literally. I'm currently suffering me second cold this winter. So naturally, I'm thinking of this October, when, once again, I shall be on the Pride. Had me first cruise last October, on the Pride, and am looking forward to doing it again. The advantage of going on the Pride again is there'll be no "orientation time"...I already know where things are.

Looking forward to it.

I keep looking for a Magic Teleport Button that'll zap me onto the Pride, but I haven't found one yet...
