My wife and I cruised the Pride last Oct (2004). While the ship was much like any of the same class of Carnival ships, we found this ship to be extremely noisy! The casino had all of the machines turned up to maximum volume, the overhead announcements were so loud they were distorted, and even the people seemed to yell. Maybe that was to be heard over everything else.

We have sailed the Legend (same class of ship) and it's probably our favorite.

The staff on board the Pride was fine. We recieved great service. Probably one of the funniest skits I've ever seen was on board the Pride though. The Cruise Director (can't recall his name...british guy) had 3 people from the audience come up and he directed them through a story as he narrarated. They acted out what he said. Extremely funny and refreshing over the routine stuff that is generic to all Carnival ships.

The Itinerary for our crusie was Puerta Vallarta, Mazatlan & Cabo San Lucas. Cabo was probably the best stop for us. We did excursions at Mazatlan & Vallarta. Mazatlan was a Kayak/Beach outing...fun but be in good health/fit! and the beach was so so food almost none existent. Vallarta was a nice hide away beach and lunch excursion. But, it took a LONG time to get there by boat. Cabo, we walked araound and just sort of relaxed...other than the heckling from street vendors along the pier, it was a great little town.

We love sailing Carnival, but found this cruise a littel disappointing caompared to the others.

We like the Pride and all the Spirit class ships. We have been on them all; Spirit, Pride, Legend (twice) and the Miracle.

Spirit class vessels have the nicest supper club out there (great location with entertainment too).

Ships are not too big or too small and easy to get around. They offer some nice 8-day cruises which are neat (i.e. Panama visit) which have more experienced cruisers if that's your thing.

Rooms are good size, an extended balcony is a good choice or a category 7A balcony if you are on a budget. I have always enjoyed the food. Casinos have been good to me on Carnival, lousy on every other line.

We also sail Royal Caribbean and Holland America. When we sail Carnival, we always choose a Spirit class vessel.

The ship, as with all of the Spirit-class ships, is poorly designed and executed.

My least-favorite class of ship.

I couldn't DISAGREE more with tef. (sorry)

I think the Spirit Class ships have the ideal layout. My favorite location, the aft lido deck. Open to the sea 270 degrees with an adult pool, a bar, and just steps away from the Lido buffet. One can relax on this aft deck and enjoy the sea (one of the main purposes for cruising for me). The double promenades with slight curves in them, taking away the long long hall look, just add more to their class.

Other larger Carnival ships have the Lido deck surrounded with steel and glass. Must move up a deck from the lido to get to the "open" sea. No bars, no food, no fun there, useable only for just reading or napping. The amphitheatre-style forward Lido deck is ugly IMHO and an incredible waste of a great space. :(

I also really like the 2 storey disco with the spiral staircase. Great setup, fantastic sound and almost everyone has a terrific view of the dance floor.

It seems there are never any lines on the Spirit Class ships and a smaller complement of passengers makes her the ideal size for me. :)

The enlarged artwork of the masters throughout the ship only adds to the beauty and glamour of this vessel.

We love the Pride and are going on it for the third time, it is a great open layout and not to big or small. The cabins are very spacious and the balcony is more then adequate. The two story dining room is very grand and the service has always been great.

I certainly didnt have any trouble navigating my way around Pride. I did like the aft end of the lido deck.

Each class of ship is supposed to be different anyway right?

I am more than sure I will enjoy my up coming Legend cruise as well.

Now if you want to know my opinion of RCI's Voyager class ships.....thats a navigational nightmare on the first 3 decks forward. EEK!

I'll second that! We were on the Mariner and they funnel everyone thorugh the center of the ship down "Main Street" or through the casino. Then they have the audacity to stage a show and a parade down Main street!!! What a cattle car experience.

I much prefer the Spirit class over the Destiny or Conquest class because the decks pass straight through, unlike the others where you have to negotiate around the dining room. I didn't care much for the itinerary although I love Mexico. It was OK but I enjoy the east coast more. Food is typical Carnival which I enjoy a lot. Cabin and service were great.

Just took our very first cruise. Carnival Pride. I was worried my DH would hate it. He loved every minute of it. The ship has a rational layout and we felt "at home" by the end of the second day.

Had an extended balcony on the Empress deck. We had an oversized balcony, so we had 2 lounge chairs, 1 straight chair, two adjsutable type chairs and a little side table. It was a quad, but we had only 3. Very comfortable. The new beds, duvet, etc. Tons of storage/closet space. Great lighting. Bathroom, again, tons of shelf space, lots of towels, great shower.

Food was good and lots of choices. My DD thought the fresh fruit and different kinds of juices were a highlight. I loved the burgers, flavorful and juicy. Deli station for lunch should't be missed, ruebens, roast beef, etc. (grilled while you wait, about 3 minutes). My DH went to the serious food stations for lunch and had stuff like lamb chops and stuffed pork loin. He is a serious foodie and said it was some of the best food he has ever eaten. This was at lunch in the buffet!

We loved the Pride, and over a month later, we are still in PCD.

I love the Spirit class ships, these ships never seem crowded (like Conquest). On the Spirit I had room 6224 which had an extended balcony. On Pride I had room 7143 which had a regular balcony. I really did not notice the difference in balconies.

The only thing I did not like about the Pride was the decor. It is very dark (Old Masters theme) and dreary. The Spirit was so bright and whimsical that when I went on Pride, it was depressing.

not many people seem to talk about the pride. i have read some good things on it...but i am starting to question my choice. i know there is a huge difference between carribean and the west coast. i lived in baja for a year- but should i be worried about the type of people we will be sailing with?

Have to agree with Irishgirl. We just returned from Pride (Nov.27 - Dec.4). I found the ship great but that dark, dark interior seemed out of place to me. What I would love to see is a Mexican theme on that ship. After all we are all going to Mexico!

Oh no...what in the world are you talking about with "type" of people?

I guess I'm asking, who do you want to avoid? Fat people, skinny people, black people, white people, mexicans, clean people, dirty people? People with pimples? Democrats, Republicans?

Please clarify?

I was on the Pride in September of this year! I was traveling with a group of ten in six cabins and were all first time cruisers. I will promise you that we had one of the best times of our life. The ship was awesome as was the people working on it. The CD Chris has a hoot. There is so much stuff to do on sea days that we couldn't get everything in. We did different things in all the ports so we could experience lots of different things. I can't wait to sail again! We are planning a trip in the near future for 8 days on the Spirit so we can go father down into Mexico. I probably won't go in September again as it was 102 degrees so we had to drink a lot of beer and margaritas. :) Hope you don't change your mind and go and have fun!

GO COLTS!!!!

When are you sailing on the Pride?

I, too, am very curious what "type of people" you might be worried about sailing with. Please tell us....

I just got off the Pride on Sunday, the 11th. This cruise was the BEST time of my life. The people were great....we only saw one jerk the entire time, the staff was awesome, and Din2cruzagain was right, Chris the Cruise Director was great. I can't say enough about this cruise. I'm still depressed 2 days after getting off the ship. Feel like I just lost my best friend. I defintely recommend this cruise

Just got off the Pride on the 11th. Bearing in mind that this was our first cruise, I found the Pride to be absolutely beautiful. I loved every minute of this cruise, and am still in withdraws 2 days after disembarking. I thought the layout was very nice and easy to navigate. The artwork and the detail in the ship astounded me. The staff was great, and Chris, the Cruise Director, was wonderful.

The highlight of our trip was the staff. Our steward, Marut, was absolutely great. He greeted our 3 year old daughter almost every night in the hallway with open arms and a hug. As soon as he would see her, he dropped what he was doing and opened his arms to her. She would run to him for a big hug, then he would carry her to our room to show her the towel animal he had made for her before we even made it there. Just wonderful.

I hope you have a wonderful time. The day we disembarked, I found myself severely depressed. More so than I have ever been on a vacation. Enjoy every minute of it.

How funny! We cruised in June on the Disney Magic on the west coast and since it was it's first summer at the West Coast, even the people working on the ship were talking about "the people on the west coast cruises were a different type of people"...but they never clarified what they meant. We had a great time. Our friends from church just got off the Pride and they said they had a great time. I've never cruised anywhere else to compare!

You mean (gasp!) Californians?

Yes, especially those "valley" ones.....LOL We Californians are sometimes a little different, laid back, happy-go-lucky, tolerant (even of those that think of people in terms of "types"). :D

With quite a mix of different peoples (LA has 87 different countries represented) you'll be amazed at how they all know how to have fun. :)

Now those New Yorkers on the LEGEND, that's a different story ! ! :D

whoa! there is no particular "type" of people. i have just noticed that there is a greater majority of people that get revved up about the cruises that go out of florida. i don't sense as much excitement for the particular week we are going or from the boats that leave LA. last year we were on the valor and didn't find a lot of 20-30 year olds. it was families are larger retired groups, don't get me wrong we had a blast and laughed with everyone- i guess as the group organizer there is this mysterious pressure on me for everyone to have fun....

Ahhh...okay, gotcha. Based on that, you'll have a GREAT time. I agree with GLROUNDS - the layout is awesome. Fun atmosphere, always something to do :)
