So now you would be willing to stand in a line to put in a little money to make sure that your remaining balance is over $10.00 but not stand in line to get your refund if it is less that $10.00. That answers an awful lot of questions for me and it really tells everyone all they need to know about you. Have a great time on all your cruises.

You need to work on comprehending what she is writing. She did not say she was going to stand in line and put more money on her account. She said she was simply going to ensure she has at least $10 on her account so she does not have to stand in line to get her money back. I see this as a loss for Carnival because some folks may not spend as much to ensure they get their money refunded.

It’s the principle that there’s no simple, fast way to be able to get our money refunded when we overpay. I should have the option of getting all of my money back (no matter how small) or making a donation.

How are so many people missing this very important point. The consumer decides how to spend / donate their money.

I just went back and read more of the thread. I'd also suggest a credit card. If there are fraud charges it is their issue to resolve, not me chasing my own money or standing in lines on vacation. There are many consumer protections and benefits built into credit cards. Associating one to my onboard account only makes my life easier.

I do have CCs, but I prefer not to use them onboard. First off because I use Gift Cards or cash if needed, and secondly because I don't want to have to deal with erroneous charges after the fact. I do realize that the CC company can have them removed, but I would rather not even have there be a possibility to be charged when I leave the ship and then having to spend time on the phone. It's just a personal preference.

It is; it just seems 6 to 1, half a dozen to the other. Option 1; use cash and have to deal w the hassles relates to standing in line to get ur $10 or less back or waiting for a check for more than $10. Option 2; use a cc and take the chance of having to call reference an erroneous charge. I’ve used my cc on cruises, at hotels, for rental cars, etc and only once had an erroneous charge and it wasn’t difficult to get fixed. Because of this, i prefer the cc. 9 times out of 10, at least, the charges are correct.

I hear ya. I would rather just use my cash account. I have no issues with waiting for a check or Gift Card. It seems silly for me to have to use a CC for any little overage I may have from my cash account. Since I fund it with GCs at 10% off, I have a pretty good idea what I'm going to spend ahead of time and I stick to it. It's just that last $10 or less that is the pain.

But like I said before, I'll just make sure I have more than that left at the end so I can get it all back. And that doesn't mean I'll wait in line to add money instead of getting it back instead of cashing it out right then and there (that makes absolutely NO sense since I am trying to avoid lines in the first place). It means I won't have that one extra Kiss On The Lips or shot in a souvenir glass in the MDR as my final drink of the night if it's getting close.

  • 2 weeks later...

Is there any way to know if they will issue a refund in cheque form or as a gift card? It will be my first Carnival cruise. Not sure yet if there will be another, so a gift card could be useless to me..

Refunds come in the original form of payment. Use a gift card, get a gift card. If you use a gift card and have anything left at the end of the cruise, just use the casino trick to cash out. No waiting for anything that way.
