CruiseKeeper Posted January 9, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2018 We heard we are on our way to Freeport instead of going back to Baltimore as scheduled. GS says it will be a quick stop.

CruiseKeeper Posted January 9, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted January 9, 2018 Another pax said they heard the announcement (we didn’t), and the announcement mentioned a technical issue. Still too early to say what’s going on.
Rare Keith1010 Posted January 9, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 9, 2018 Hopefully it's not major since you mentioned quick stop. Please let us know how this turns out. Keith
trenton107 Posted January 9, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 9, 2018 What I heard from the hostess in Chops is that something is broken with the steering and that we need a part that they're trying to get to Grand Bahama and that it'll be 4pm today before we get there. She also said that they didn't have any idea when we'd be back to Baltimore. Take this all with a grain of salt as there seems to be a lot of rumor-mill right now and not a lot of facts. We are going 10 knots right now according to the TV. I’ll be anxious to see where we dock when we get there.
BillB48 Posted January 9, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 9, 2018 I just looked at marine traffic and she looks to be about 60 nautical miles from Freeport, a 4PM arrival is certainly possible at that speed. Marine traffic also listed the speed as 10 knots.
trenton107 Posted January 9, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 9, 2018 Captain Thor just announced that we're now headed to Port Canaveral and will arrive in the morning. We'll spend the day there while they make repairs. He'll announce later when we'll be back in Baltimore.
CruiseKeeper Posted January 9, 2018 Author #9 Share Posted January 9, 2018 Update. Captain just said we are going to Port Canaveral instead of Freeport. The issue is port side steering where we need a part. He said the Baltimore arrival is still up in the air. Plans are still being made he said. Biker19 Posted January 9, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 9, 2018 The nice thing about issues under RCI's control, they typically provide compensation.
trenton107 Posted January 9, 2018 #11 Share Posted January 9, 2018 Doing some math..... Baltimore is 901 nautical miles from PC. If we do 22 knots (supposedly our fastest speed) that's 40+ hours which means we'd be in Baltimore Friday afternoon/evening. Weather in PC tomorrow is 72 and raining. I was hoping for sun, oh well. bob brown Posted January 9, 2018 #12 Share Posted January 9, 2018 Hope everything works out okay....at best, you'll get a bonus cruise day. At worst, they would have to terminate the cruise there if repairs can't be accomplished....

She does much less than top speed while in the Bay, so add a couple hours.:p
DavidJrandRichard Posted January 9, 2018 #15 Share Posted January 9, 2018 I am currently on board the Grandeur, the captain has announced we will be spending tomorrow in Port Canaveral, nothing else has been said about how we will get to Baltimore...except they are working on it. Citymom92 Posted January 9, 2018 #16 Share Posted January 9, 2018 If Grandeur boarding is delayed by a day for the 1/11/18 cruise, will they refund some amount for the loss of a day, and skip a port or two, or will they cancel the cruise outright? This is our second attempt at a 25th anniversary trip (the first being cancelled by hurricanes), so I am really praying we get some days cruising instead of an outright cancellation. Unlikely anything will be decided before they find out if the fix in PC will work.

It would be easier to transport us all home from the US.
Biker19 Posted January 9, 2018 #19 Share Posted January 9, 2018 I wonder if terminating the cruise in PC is the reason we aren’t going for repairs in the Bahamas. There are probably better excursion (off ship) options in PC than Freeport - need to keep the restless customers busy.

Citymom92 Posted January 9, 2018 #21 Share Posted January 9, 2018 Just got this: S: Royal Caribbean Update: Grandeur of the Seas is currently experiencing a technical issue which limits the operation of one of the two rudders used to steer the ship. We are actively working through the details and will have another update for you today at 12:30 PM EST.
