Kennedy Space Centre Excursion.... worth the money?

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I'm new to cruising but not to Florida or KSC though it was about 10 years since I was last at Kennedy so the question I'm really needing answered is whether it's worth paying about the same and doing everything myself that is sorting transport for three and buying tickets or is doing the excursion through Royal Caribbean and they handle the transport and everything the wiser option?

P.S.

I'll be porting at Port Canaveral

What is the cost doing the excursion through Royal Caribbean?

I'm waiting until it comes on sale again but at the time of the last sale it was £58.25 each which is roughly £22 per person more than buying the ticket itself.

P.S.

I see you've cruise on the Adventure of the Seas which is the one I'm going on, how did you find it?

If you can use Uber to get to KSC, figure around $50 total each way for your group of three. If I understand the conversion, doing the excursion with the cruise line will cost you 66 pounds or around $90 for transportation. Seems it's a bit less expensive to do the excursion with the cruise line.

We enjoy Adventure, we're going on her again soon. She has also just finished an extensive dry dock and has seveal new features.

Yeah without knowing just how many liners will be docking on that day I'm a bit worried whether it would be worthwhile taking the chance of finding a cab/uber available without waiting. I know you are on a set timeable with the excursion but as we've done KSC before not getting to see everything to the full isn't really that big a deal plus one of our party is in a wheelchair so reckon letting them handle everything might be best.

We are boarding it from NewYork in June and staying in one of the new Panoramic Rooms on Deck 12 so really looking forward to it.

I agree, the wheelchair might be easier to accommodate with the ship excursion.

If the excursion thru the ship is escorted/guide, by all means go with the ship. We have been to KSC many times since we live in FL. We were there via auto in August 2016 and there were lines, lines, lines thus we did not get to see all we wished to see. With someone in a wheelchair you should get priority in line as you do at Disney. Go with ship excursion and save yourself a big headache. Enjoy your visit. So many awesome things to see.

We were there on a non-summer month and it wasn't crowded at all. Definitely a great experience, but it could have been a little shorter, maybe by an hour. Most of the excursion, you are on your own to explore what interests you.

As to the transportation, it's not a short ride to KSC, so the price of a Taxi would be steep. UBER or Lyft would be cheaper.

The excursion is not run by RCI. There is a KSC vendor that runs the excursion. Buses marked with KSC will pick you up just outside of the terminal building and transport you to KSC. There will be a set time to meet those same buses for the return to the port. Very easy.

Enjoy!

Hi. This is Jim borrowing my wife's account.

I was just did the KSC Guided tour a few days ago, and provide a little bit of information. The current and last cruises I took both offered a guided and non-guided tour. If you do want to go, do the guided tour. *IF* security in the U.S. is *not* raised, then the guided tour may save time. That is because the KSC is actually two parts: The Kennedy Space Center theme park, and NASA (where you can see the launch pads in the distance, the outside of the Vehicle Assembly Building, and the Saturn V rocket (inside a building and on its side). (I got to touch a moon rock while there.) Normally, to do the NASA part of the tour, you need to go through security at the KSC, then the entrance, then go over to another line to catch a bus. So, if you have the guided tour (and NASA government security agrees to this), your bus may go straight to the NASA part of the trip and can save you up to an hour.

As for the KSC, itself, think of it as a small theme park. There are several experiences available (3D movie, Train like an Astronaut, and more), plus the Space Shuttle Atlantis (with a simulator ride of a shuttle take-off available). Mostl of these (including the Saturn V display) have a pre-show that explain things, then leads into the main part of the 'show'. They help with putting what you are about to see/do into context.

So, if you are interested in the U.S. space program, this can be fun and educational. If you aren't interested, then don't bother going. There are enough other things available to do in the Port Canaveral area. (Especially if your ship is in The Cove area, and not docked by the Disney terminal. But, that is another item.)
