Flymia Posted March 19, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Lincoln Road one evening is a must IMO. I would highly suggest Yardbird for dinner. Make sure to make reservations. Vizcaya is great. Other popular areas to check out are Little Havana, Brickell and Downtown, Bayside Marketplace (for drinks and touristy shopping, I would not recommend dinner there). A boat tour around Biscayne Bay is fairly popular. Ocean Drive is nice to see the Art Deco buildings and grab a drink, but don't have a meal there. Wynwood is very popular these days, great place to get lunch or dinner and walk around the main strip. Lots of choices for food, really depends on what you want. Coconut Grove is a nice area of itself. Some nice places to grab meals and drinks there. A more local place is Flannigans in Coconut Grove they have really cool American bar food. Try their ribs. Its a pretty big chain in Southeast Florida.
fireofficer5 Posted March 19, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 19, 2018 You shouldn't have to leave the Coconut Grove area to enjoy yourself.

Rare Host CJSKIDS Posted March 20, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 20, 2018 Yup, Montys reads good as well. If you are lucky enough to come during stone crab season, Montys has a great deal at happy hour on these. And their peel and eat shrimp at happy hour is great. Right now the stone crabs are $5 a piece and the shrimp is always $1 a piece at happy hour. Make sure and have a pain remover cocktail!
Flymia Posted March 20, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 20, 2018 The ribs are amazing at Flannigans!! Yes they are! Never had have a bad meal there. All their locations are constantly good. Its not first class meal or service, buts it is always good. Ribs are top notch though!

UK Cruiser2 Posted March 20, 2018 Author #12 Share Posted March 20, 2018 Thanks for all the ideas, plenty suggestions for evenings. Apart from doing the boat trip around the bay where should we head during the day ? Keep in mind we don't know anything about Coconut Grove or any other parts of Miami. A really good way to see the city is the hop on and off bus. It will take you around all the big spots. Some of the areas that are recommended to see are: Vizcaya Ocean Drive (South Beach) Lincoln Road (go in the evening/night) Little Havana Coral Gables (miracle mile and Biltmore Hotel) Brickell and Downtown Miami area including Brickell City Centre and Bayside Marketplace. The Beach. Cape Florida Lighthouse Perez Art Museum (its ok modern art) Miami Science Museum (right next to the art museum great building good place for kids) Wynwood (art community) Everglades National Park (half the year very hot and humid) Biscayne National Park (snorkling in a coral reef) Zoo Miami (great zoo). The malls are well known such as Aventura Mall.

Capt_BJ Posted March 23, 2018 #17 Share Posted March 23, 2018 Agree with the post that says you don't need to leave the Grove for night entertainment ..... the Grove is an entertainment destination itself. When I last lived in Miami it was said tourists go to South Beach and locals go to the Grove! We first started going to Monty's in the Grove in the mid 80's! The engagement party in the movie "Meet the Fockers" the sequel to "meet the parents" was filmed there. You wouldn't happen to be staying at the Mutiny? Even if not you might enjoy reading 'Hotel Scarface' which is about the Mutiny during the high point of the drug days in Miami. Mutiny was the basis for 'club Babylon' in the Pachino version of the movie Scarface [Roben Farzad, 2017] "where cocaine cowboys partied and plotted to control miami" Daytime ..... a lesser know place to visit in Miami which is unique is Venetian Pool in Coral Gables (not far from the Grove) http://www.coralgables.com/index.aspx?page=167 The pool was created in 1923 from a coral rock quarry, where much of the original coral rock was used to border and further accentuate the pool. It also features two large historic lookout towers, with a view to the City Beautiful. The 820,000 gallon pool is fed with spring water from an underground aquifer. In the spring and summer seasons, the pool is filled and drained daily!

If you have a car and are interested in the Everglades you might consider a trip out to Shark Valley. It's about an hour drive due west. Lots of alligators of course, but also numerous bird varieties, deer, and other wildlife.
