Please take notice of the following , there is going to be a strike on monday april 30 and may 1st in the Netherlands of regional public transport services . Public transport in the major cities is not affected ( on lines operated by the local companies (RET, HTM and GVB), trains and busses operated by regional companies will not run. Trains operated by NS ( Nederlands Spoorwegen) , the major network , will run . For more info please check the website of the regional companies who operate in the western part of the Netherlands such as : http://www.arriva.nl , http://www.syntus.nl , www. connexxion.nl or www.ov9292.nl for all public transport .

On these days the Rotterdam will be in port on april 30 ( Rotterdam) and on may 1st the Brilliance of the Seas in amsterdom .

We informed our friends on board ms Rotterdam about that a few days ago and he mailed it was discussed during one of the talks by the excursion desk. So most passengers will know about it. Of course a strike never makes a good impression to tourists.

Better be safe or well informed than sorry !

And agreed , strikes hardly ever leave good impressions , not on citizens either ....

Indeed and probably not all passengers attended, so some will not be informed.

Thanks for the information - good thing is there is enough to see in Rotterdam itself which appears not to be affected and the port is in a good central location that allows both interesting nearby land and water exploration. And there are also the bike tours to take too if you want to get out into the countryside.

That said, Holland is a wonderful country to explore by train - and get away from the crowds and see some beautiful scenery and small towns all only a few hours away by train when it is operational - head towards Zutphen is you want to see a far less touristed scenic classic.
