I can't say enough about this excursion. Our guides, Ryan and Matt, were amazing and the whole experience was just breathtaking! Back in town we had a short time to wander around. It weather was grim again (not sure if it was like this in town all day as we had spent about 6 hours on our excursion). We wanted to get back on the ship to catch dinner in MDR, and we were pretty pooped from our active day so we didn't wander for long.3baa52f87f2c1aafe1da56ed19b59735.jpg4c81ac5e085fbab1fef857c6b5c80007.jpg0a79496ffa482c7795c537a06adb9d41.jpg9dea6be7ea2a98140e67329173c33cfc.jpgf56ccc8c641d8e2a562b9851dbd78025.jpge309a34af89a0ea0bbeae369fb20f3b2.jpg

Dinner Monday night was celebration of the fabulous culinary council. I had read about this on CC and was not looking forward to it, but we were impressed with the menu and had a hard time choosing9b2f05a6ecf3d3b34cab28cb3a7f1a5e.jpg796d0ad8e01348221831356603048a08.jpgb7b438baf69a6098c851698499a09427.jpg3000aa1b8112a9f70dfe45b336282734.jpg

Tuesday, May 29, Skagway

We opted for a tour that takes a small 25 passenger bus up to Emerald Lake in the Yukon Territory with a stop for lunch and a visit to the sled dog training camp at Caribou Crossing followed by a train ride from Frazier back to Skagway. We did this through Chilkoot Tours. It was fabulous! Our guide Jamison was phenomenal and this 7 hour excursion included one amazing, jaw-dropping vista after another! Every time we came around a bend it was a new round of *gasp...ooohhh..WOW!

This is fascinating. Is it the site of a long-gone glacier? Did they say what it was?

I am thoroughly enjoying your review. You and your family look like you are having a wonderful time in these pictures!

Hmm. Not quite sure why the pic isn’t showing. I can see it when I quote and edit. It’s the one with the trees in the sand.

It is called Carcross Desert, the smallest desert in the world, but it's not really a desert...it's a pseudo-desert. It is a place where the glacial silt is deposited by wind from the surrounding area, creating the look of a desert. Locals camp there and ride their ATVs. There are several species of insects, I forget how many Jamison said, that only found there.d980c47d1dbb8aa62966bdf2fd00a56d.jpg486d7873e83de3a1965d84b71602723b.jpg4877c640bfc5035efde188d59115dc9b.jpg50740637da6ca0a6fcdc8f4974a2a78e.jpg

Love your pictures! We are doing Chilkoot tours in 2 weeks. Very excited! Was the lunch at Caribou Crossing able to accommodate GF? Traveling with peanut/tree nut allergies and tried contacting them but have not heard back. Thank you!!

Yes what you see in the photo of the meal is gf. There was no alternative roll or dessert but the plate was filling enough. She didn't try but I imagine she could have asked for another half of a potato. I had also tried to contact them in advance and also did not get a response.

Thank you for your response!! My son is 5 so I think I will bring some “special treats” just in case. Worst case it won’t be first time he has had oatmeal for his meal!! Good thing he likes it!!! :)

On the way back to Fraser from Emerald Lake, we stop at Carcross for about 20 minutes. Scenic Bennett Lake. Stopped for a photo of at the Yukon sign, to prove we were there lol.8f9f054d1b3c5b754caff16903dbc453.jpg6facd816b19b04ade9d71ed78c6c2ce6.jpgfa264234ee3673e0823a8898480e3bd6.jpg3a0356bc81c07c5da65ba9622499091b.jpg661f1c5f17f63def55e96ffa435efbaf.jpg27704f7bded41007d15f889cfad2376c.jpg
