Just Back from the Liberty of the Seas- Lots of tips, tricks and pics

Recommended Posts

My husband and I just got back from our 14th cruise. We were sailing aboard the Liberty of the Seas out of Galveston to the Western Caribbean. This would be our 3rd Royal Caribbean cruise and once again we LOVED the ship and the overall experience.

SHIP

It is very well kept and in pristine shape. It offers all kinds of attractions and experiences like waterslides and flowrider and even SPLASHAWAY bay for the little kids. We thoroughly enjoyed the waterslides and main pool areas.

Food and Food Service

The Main Dining Room has improved a LOT from our previous Royal Caribbean experiences. We were in and out of the dining room (My Time Dining) in less than an hour and a half most night. The food was MUCH improved as well. We enjoyed all of the Main Dining Room food but the Specialty Dining was phenomenal.

We ate at Chops, Giovanni's and Sabor as part of our 4 night dining package. Each of the 3 were HIGHLY impressive and some of the best specialty dining we have had at sea on any of the 4 cruise lines we have sailed. The service was even better than the food. We may have to purchase the ultimate 7 dining package next time because we were spoiled.

We did notice Royal was offering a $30 specials for Giovanni's AND Sabor ($30 TOTAL per person) if you book for the 1st two nights. This was in the GALVESTON terminal only. We never saw this offered ON BOARD.

Stateroom

We had an aft balcony cabin 9704. It was a corner balcony and was HUGE! It came with 2 lounger chairs and TONS of space. HOWEVER, it was on a corner and was not covered very well. We are very light skinned and we used towels and sheets to cover up with when the sun was blazing on the balcony! Even still, it was one of our favorite cabins of all time and worth EVERY PENNY!

Service of Crew

The overall service of the crew members (non food... bc they are mentioned above) was very good but not necessarily, the best we have ever had or overly amazing. Our stateroom steward so fantastic and got everything we needed at anytime. We didn't see him much but we knew he was there. The other crew was great and we could tell they wanted to be there.

Entertainment

This is where we were unimpressed. There were lots of comedians and most were just lame. The ENCORE ICE SHOW was phenomenal as all Royal Ice shows are. The In the Air show was also very good with the hired acrobats. The other shows just didn't pull off the WOW factor the rest of the cruise did.

Ports

Coxen Hole- It is so-so to us. Been there done that and not a whole lot to offer right at the port. We love the monkey sanctuary!

Costa Maya- This is QUICKLY becoming a favorite of mine. We did the Mayan Healing Spa with a couples massage right on the BEACH at the terminal area. It was $85 for BOTH of us and it was incredible.

Cozumel- Not our 1st rodeo as we have been there literally over a dozen times. Margaritas on the beach... And it was perfect!

I am a cruise blogger and will have A TON MORE pics and tips and tricks and insight for all of this on my blog! I would love for you to follow along and ask questions! I love helping others with their cruise and this allows me to recap my trip and then look back for future cruises.

Thanks for following along! I hope this helps someone!

What a wonderful family. Thank you for your review. We will be in get in a couple of months. Do you know if you can bring water, coke in a rolling carry on? You said that you had to go to the naughty room that's why I ask. Look forward to reading more.

Thank you for the kind words!

In the past we had put in our carry on or taped a luggage tag on it and both times they got through and/ or delivered to our room. I’m not sure why this time. One of the room stewards who saw us toting them back to our room said for whatever reason they had been doing that the last 2-3 cruises. But we DID get them just had to get them ourselves. I hope that helps...

Thank you for the review! We leave in 9 days. I can't believe you were on board that early! I told my kids we were leaving our house at 9:45, but I think I will tell them earlier. We are 35 minutes away from the terminal, but by the time DH drops us off and parks, it will take a little longer.

What did you do as soon as you boarded? I see from previous Compasses that WJ isn't open until 11:30.

I just read the first part....what you did when you boarded. I assume you live on the north side of Houston?

How were you able to drop off your carry ons? There are 5 of us and we really don't want to cart them around for 2 hours. We are Platinum on Carnival so we always appreciate being able to drop off our bags immediately. But we have never tried it on the other lines.

"Once on board we made our way to the Lido deck and started exploring and seeing what all the

Liberty of the Seas

offered before going back down to the Promenade on Deck 5 for a light lunch in Cafe Promenade.

Tip- The Liberty of the Seas offers a UNIQUE promenade area on deck 5 that is enclosed and offers restaurants, shops, bars and even services like Next Cruise and Shore Excursions. It is like a mall within a cruise ship. WE LOVE it and it is available on all Voyager and Freedom class Royal Caribbean ships!"

Tip: Oasis class ships have a Royal Promenade also. Quantum class ships call theirs the Royal Esplanade, but it's basically the same thing.

Thanks for that... I didn't know it was called something different! Thanks... I will update that!

Yes the WJ was not open so we went to the Promenade and enjoyed taking it all in. We ate pizza at Sorrentos when it opened at 11AM and Cafe Promenade was available as soon as we got there just before 11AM.

I am currently scanning in all the Cruise Compass so I will get those posted soon!

Yes, we live in The Woodlands near Conroe. Dropping off our luggage was very easy. I dropped my husband off, since he has a bad ankle, and he gave all our luggage to the porters with a $20 and I parked the car at Cruise Park.

Once onboard around 11:15 or so I went up to our room. I saw a guy who was picking up wheelchairs from the previous cruise and he told me to just ask the room steward. I saw her (not mine) but I asked and she said sure just leave it OUTSIDE the room. So I did. I appreciated her so much because lugging that around is NO FUN! I think it is just one of those things... Just ask. Of course, they may say no but at least you can try!

We went straight to the Lido deck when we got on and then back to the Promenade to eat at Cafe Promenade.

I hope this helps!

Awesome review so far. I am really enjoying your blog. We are sailing this same itinerary in a couple of weeks. You said you did a Mayan Healing Couples massage in Costa Maya, where did you book that or did you just do it when you got off of the ship. If so, where was it? Thank you!

How was Chris able to do this? I requested on a special needs form for inside muster and they said I need to do that I needed to do that at the Guest Services desk when we got onboard.

It is in the pier/ terminal area. If you enter the port/ shopping area and make a left you will see it. It is right beside a HUGE Finding Nemo statue. GREAT people and great prices too!

We told our steward before the drill and as we approached the area to go to our designated station I asked an "officer" as he was in a suit and he escorted Chris to the sitting area. He just had surgery and still recovering. We did not have a form but I did have to take his card with me to get scanned.

Thanks for your input in this topic but it is in the past and it all worked out so why even comment? And that is what 2/3 of the ship does the last night of the cruise. It worked for me and I would do it again! Thanks for your opinion though.
