cruisingfromMN Posted January 13, 2006 #26 Share Posted January 13, 2006 I don't care about towel animals, who the CD is, who the captain is, what the drink of the day is, where or what time Bingo is. But, I do care about what day, time and location of the Chocoholic Buffet.

cantwaitt Posted January 14, 2006 #30 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Nobody asked me but... 1) I think it is good that the teenagers hang out by the staircase. You don't hear them make noise. 2) Some of the best food on NCL is in Blue Lagoon--chili, hot wings, won ton soup, asian dishes 3) I wish I can watch South Beach Revue tonight. I can watch it every week. 4) The pay restaurants are the biggest scams on the cruise ships.

BruceMuzz Posted January 14, 2006 #32 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Having worked on many cruise ships for many years, nobody asked me, but: 1. The farther the ship is from the US Mainland, the better the class of the clientele. 2. Most complaints and low ratings come from passengers in the cheapest cabins. 3. Christmas is always the worst cruise of the year. (Easter, American Thanksgiving, and Hannukah are all tied for second-worst.) 4. School teachers always complain the loudest about too many children onboard, and never understand why parents take children on family holiday cruises. 5. Norwalk Virus outbreaks are almost exclusive to ships that carry primarily Americans. 6. Nearly every passenger who praises the ship for it's religious services, also complains that alcohol was confiscated from their luggage. 7. Freestyle, Personal Choice, Anytime, (and whatever else you choose to call it) dining has worked quite well in millions of restaurants all over the world for centuries. But as soon as you put it on a ship, everyone gets confused. 8. Those who claim that the cruise lines are making obscene profits never bother to buy stock in what appears to be a "sure thing". Why is that? 9. Passengers who have cruised the Caribbean 87 times and consider themselves experts never understand why the ship moves so much when they cruise on the Real Ocean. 10. Passengers who book discounted cruises during hurricane season are always shocked and amazed when a hurricane comes through and the ship is diverted. They immediately demand a refund. 11. Captains on modern cruise ships have almost nothing to say about your aircon or toilet not working, the service in the diningroom, or the size of your cabin. Calling or writing the Captain about these things just makes you look foolish. The Hotel Manager is in charge of these things. 12. On nearly every cruise line, management has been instructed to immediately turn over to Corporate Legal any threats or even hints of legal action. They are also instructed to stop any attempts to solve your problems and "leave it to the lawyers". Moral of the story: Don't say it if you don't really mean it. Threatening legal action doesn't impress onboard managers, and it actually forces them to stop helping you.
WaldosPepper Posted January 14, 2006 #33 Share Posted January 14, 2006 BruceMuzz - is right on the money! ;) :p This whole thread had me chuckling, but your reply had me truly laughing out loud. Isn't it sad how the truth is so funny. Thanks for sharing! :D
DroopySails Posted January 14, 2006 #34 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Highly entertaining list, Bruce. Re the peeking in cabins...yep, we all do it! An onboard comedian once cracked us up by saying, "Admit it, you know you're looking to see if the next guy's cabin is a few inches bigger than yours!" Locker room envy?! Happy ks Posted January 14, 2006 #36 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Cute I have to take exception to the barber reference. Ifyou go into a barber shop and see 2 barbers, one with a bad cut, one lookin good, get your hair cut from the person with the worst haircut, the other guy cut his hair. I know, old barber joke, but I was in the business for years, my husband still is (over 30 years a barber) and no, he's not bald. I also avoid the buffet, too much like buffet food. Loved your post, BruceMuzz!
BruceMuzz Posted January 15, 2006 #37 Share Posted January 15, 2006 Sorry, one more. Why is it when a passenger tries to jump out of an airplane, everyone thinks there is something wrong with the passenger - but when a passenger tries to jump off a cruise ship, everyone thinks there is something wrong with the cruise line???? MagnoliaMan Posted January 15, 2006 #38 Share Posted January 15, 2006 :) when you are on vacation, everything is done for you (except you must dress yourself), they furnish latkes when you are on ship over Holidays, smiles by crew and staff are "by the bushel", and your hardest thing is making a decision of when is the next cruise, not "do I have to go". We never had a bad cruise. #14 was 11 nites over past Hannukah/Christmas on NCL SUN, , #15will be 11 nites on March 06 on X GALAXY, #16 will be Oct 06 31 nites B2B NCL CROWN SoAmerica. Burtshell - loved this. thanks so much. MagnoliaMan:D
Arwenmark Posted January 15, 2006 #39 Share Posted January 15, 2006 why is Freestyle such a hard concept for some cruisers to grasp? It's no different than going out to dinner on land. There is one slight difference. One of the options is stitting at a table with strangers all of whom asked to be seated as such. Most regular on land places do not seat you with others. Other than that I agree basically like on land, or of course you can reserve same table and same waiters every night, which I guess you could on land if you were a very special client. bob&france Posted January 15, 2006 #40 Share Posted January 15, 2006 Great list....I'll give it a try I never go to the Library , expecially on a cruise yes, I take too much bacon and don't eat it all on my last cruise I got Lock-Jaw 1 day prior, couldn't open mouth more than 1/4 inch...had to un-roll the sushi to eat it my smuggled beer always gets to my room I always take an inside room, to make sure I stay outside it I always play the slots right beside the entrance to the casino, because they win more to attract people to come in and lose more I buy my drinks in the casino as the prices seem cheaper I never worry about the weather I take vacation to relax then end up staying up late and waking up early to be sure I don't miss anything midnight on the back of a ship with a cigar is as close to heaven as I'll get while i'm alive I never eat at the midnight buffet.....I'm at the back of the ship I put a credit on my sign and sail and then spend it , so i never have a bill at the end....ane then I ask for a check for the few unspent dollars I always spend a few $ in the port of call to be sure I support the locals Second to beer, a half and half mix of the free Ice tea and lemonade is my favorite drink. I play in the $10 Casino tournaments to remind myself not to actually play in the casino...just go there to buy my drinks I stand beside the craps tables for hours and never figure out what's going on Cruise Directors need to get more innovative...bingo, horse races by the pool, hairy chest contest, talent show..I get it....next Hotmail and Cruisecritic are the only web sites I know my name is Bob and I love cruising ! SailAways Posted January 15, 2006 #41 Share Posted January 15, 2006 I have a feeling that the people who complain the most about food are the ones who are eating the most at every meal. How can parents forget that the children they brought aboard really are their responsibility on the cruise?? Why is it that being on the same cruise, going to the same places, it seems that when reading reviews, we were not in the same place at all?? Do we all feel like stowing away, and doing it all over again? Getting off of the ship is so very painful - just a few more days, please.
EileenN Posted January 15, 2006 #42 Share Posted January 15, 2006 Hate to stand in line, waiting to board and listen to people complain before they even get on the ship. Don't like people who cut in the buffet line with lame excuses Who purchased that "art" for the "art sale"? Why are so many people in a rush to go nowhere on sea days? How many people can they fit into one of those elevators? Too many try at once. Why does the chololate buffet look so good and taste bland? I have great expectations of anything chocolate, but I am left wanting after it.
franu Posted January 25, 2006 #43 Share Posted January 25, 2006 Hi, I am enjoying my cruises. I have cruise parts of 6 continents thanks to the egg creme. My late husband and his parents had candy stores in the NYC area. They did well from those drinks. I met my DH when I went into the little store at the Church Ave. Station of the BMT to get an egg creme and eventually wound up with a husband. Having made many of the drinks myself, I know that although we used Fox's Ubet many years later, but our drinks were made with Blossom syrup. The trick is that it is not just chocolate syrup but it must be a milk chocolate syrup for the taste. alderaniandad, Good question, where is Captain Mogic now? BTW When most of you were moving to Florida, I moved north to Canada. Love it here!!!

smeyer418 Posted January 31, 2006 #48 Share Posted January 31, 2006 An egg cream is not an egg cream without Fox's ubet...the only time I care who the captain is is when I get invited for dinner. Otherwise he like the captain of a plane is at his best when no body knows his name.. Great list and I still live in Brooklyn Forgahaboutit.....(my name is not Marty Markowitz---as someone called me on a cruise)....

I keep seeing this thread and that's the comment that kept popping into my head so I couldn't resist the temptation any longer. Just kidding of course, great thread. NOBODY ASKED ME BUT... The same as the others... don't care about the towel animals, singing and dancing waiters, desserts on fire, who the Captain, CD, HD, PHP, USD is.
