SINGAPORE HOTELS

I stayed at Marina Bay Sands for a week before I joined Arcadia for part of its 2012 Grand Odyssey cruise. It was an amazing hotel and I would love to go back. I do not recall what I paid, but it was worth it. I had room 4450 in tower 2 which was the middle tower and it had views of the Merlion and Singapore city. All I remember was that St. Regis was much more expensive in Singapore when I stayed there in 2009 compared to Marina Bay Sands. If I remember correctly there are some good shopping stores underneath Marina Bay called the Shoppes if I remember the spelling. I managed to get some pretty good designer brand clothing to wear on the cruise there that I still have to this day. The Marina Bay Sands only has a fleet of Mercedes for transport which is nothing compared to the Bentley I got from St. Regis for transport to the ship.

There is an enormous shopping mall underneath the towers and spilling towards the city. High end shops.

plus a casino (that locals have to buy a special permit to enter). Just looked it up, $100 for 24 hours, $2000 annual. Like alcohol, another sin tax.

Looking away from the city towards the sea is the Gardens by the Bay. Marvellous experience, both the external and internal gardens. May have opened after you were there.

The St. Regis was the choice of the chinese communist leader and it is also where he suggested that despotic leader stay when he had that meeting with the lunatic on the other side of the Pacific in Singapore. Not sure why all those nutters had to pick the great city of Singapore to have their summit and tarnish good places with their mere presence.

I am overdue for a trip to Singapore and want to go back. It will likely be Marina Bay again purely for the hotel and its pool deck that I like. The gardens on the other side of the bay where not finished when I was there.
