Cinque Terre Excursion

Can anyone suggest/recommend  the best Cinque Terre Excursion from La Spezia in August - either going by a coach trip or using the local train.

You can either do the ships excursion or catch the local boats or use the local train.Last time we went we intended to use the train and walked to the station(about 3/4 mile away) There is a special ticket office for Cinque Terre and you can easily visit all places.However all the trains were cancelled as there was a danger of a landslip! We found out later that the little boats and the ships excursion were cancelled too.If we went again I would still try and visit by train and it is the cheapest option

We went by the local boat.  Short walk from where the cruise ship docks and were able to get on and off when we wanted.  Really enjoyed it and would definitely do again.

Last time we done it by train. Walked to station and it was all very simple. Buy ticket at station and off you go! We went right to end and worked our way back, others appeared to be doing it the other way round but we had a fab day! Beautiful views from all villages. Enjoy.

At La Spezia station, buy the Cinque Terre Card which acts like a hop on, hop off service.  They gave us a timetable of the services - plan your day in respect of the train times to make the most of your time.  This link gives you some information.
