Jersey City, Journal Square to near Rockefeller Center- Help!

We will be staying 2 blocks from the PATH station near Journal Square in Jersey City.  We will need to be at the Winter Garden Theater, 1634 Broadway, NY. for a 10:00 am tour.  What is the easiest and least expensive way to reach our destination?  We are both 62+ in age, good health, and able to do some walking if needed.  However, coming from an extremely rural community, we are totally inexperienced with commuter trains, transit, and subways, so using these methods of travel will also be an adventure!  Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Take the PATH train to 33rd & 6th, then a taxi. The Winter Garden is not really near Rockefeller Center, and while you could transfer to a subway, get off at Rockefeller Center and then walk west to Broadway, I think for you it would be much simpler (and faster) to just get in a cab.

What day of the week?  I hope a weekend.  On a weekday you will be dealing with rush hour.

Take the PATH train from Journal Square to 33rd St in Manhattan (just don't get on a World Trade Center Train). Use vending machines to buy $2.75 one way or spring for round trip tickets but don't lose them!

Each person must swipe a ticket ONCE at a turnstile to open it and hurry through.

Then exit at 33rd st and hail a taxi or call uber or lyft to get to your Tour.  That's going to be less than $20.

Allow an hour and a half on the weekend. Two hours on a weekday.  You will be early but as newbies you need extra time.

PATH train to 33rd St.  Subway N train from 34th st to 49th St.  What day of the week?

Should be no problem getting a seat at Journal Square.  Front or back of the train advice depends on the day of the week.  At 33rd St there should be a good connection in the concourse to the N train.  Short walk to the Winter Garden.

Hopefully someone can give you advice about getting a Metro card.  I believe both PATH and subway fares can be debited from a single Metro card.  I have a senior PATH card, so I always buy the subway fare separately on a Metro card.

We will only be in New York one day, Wednesday, June 26th, prior to leaving on a cruise from Bayonne on June 27th.  After our tour is over around 4:00pm, we'll probably explore a bit longer, then head back to Jersey City before it gets too dark.

PATH will originate at Journal Square and terminate at 33rd St on a Wednesday.  You want to be towards the front of the train if possible to be closer to your subway connection.  IMO at that hour of the morning taking the N or R uptown train two stops will be the fastest and will get you very close to your destination.

For you return you need to get yourselves to back 32nd & 6th for PATH and take the Journal Square train back.  Macy’s is at 34th & 6th.  They have a good food court.

Are you staying in a Journal Square hotel?  If so it would be nice if you posted back about your experience.
