Formerly known as Seabee Posted July 16, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2019 Been to Nice, Monaco, Eze etc so have decided to spend day in VF proper. Planning on exploring the town and perhaps walking out to Rothschild house. Any must sees in VF? Thanks.

Bobal Posted July 18, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 18, 2019 Another nice walk (although long) is to follow the path around the coast and walk to the tip of Cap Ferrat.

There's an old fort which now houses the city offices, an attractive small "downtown" area with a nice church/cathedral. The first photo in Mark's collection is of a very old castle up on the ridge high above and north of the town. Have no idea if/how it's accessible. In the afternoon I took a ship tour to Eze. We had been there before but that time it a very rainy day. Our day at Villefranche was a warm, clear day so the Eze visit was different from my prior visit. Eze is a "mountain town" with narrow cobbled streets (vehicles have to park outside its gates). Lots of shops, art galleries, restaurants. Picasso is buried up there. Enjoy! Alohaaloha Posted July 19, 2019 #5 Share Posted July 19, 2019 Villefranche is just lovely to walk around, and also the ocean is great for swimming, but the beach is pebbly. Villa Rothschild is an incredible place. The house itself is stunning, and the gardens are just beautiful. I’ve only ever visited the house from Nice, so not familiar with the walk, but well worth the visit.

Eze is quite a photographer's dream. I don't believe I mentioned this before: on our first "rainy" visit there, the cobbled streets showed their beautiful and intricate patterns. On our "dry" visit, we could not see those patterns. 😞
Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted July 21, 2019 #8 Share Posted July 21, 2019 We enjoyed a scrumptious French breakfast on a love seat about 3 ft from the sea and strolled the town. It was such a peaceful, picturesque little village! The beach was made of rocks that were very painful to walk on, though.
BarbinMich Posted July 21, 2019 #9 Share Posted July 21, 2019 BTW, forgot to mention that Elton John has a home on the peninsula east of Villefranche. There aren't too many estates over there, but I never knew which one was his.
