I agree about the casino but it’s a big attraction for some.

Royal Caribbean with it’s dry docks are doing away with a lot of it’s under used and none profitable areas such as high end shopping.

when was the last time you bought a $1000 watch or bracelet.

Voyeger is getting US$100 mil make over in Singapore next month. They are removing the shops in the promenade and putting in a tiki, sports and martini bar plus a video arcade.

Just to create more revenue and more drunks.

But those shops are like the casino. Not quite as popular here, but very popular in Asia. Whereas bars are markedly less so.

I too believe that ships design should be flexible enough to be able to turn a space for one function into another without too many issues. Some more modern ships have started to do this on a daily basis ( for an activity or such) while others have a space totally converted on a seasonal basis (Asia - High roller room vs Australia - status lounge).

Yes, there must be quite a few regional difference in public space use. I've noticed the shops on cruises in our region are not popular but were quite busy on the Med cruise we did. In our region those spaces would garner more income as cafe-bars.

The Asian region has significant differences too, less use of outdoor spaces and more gambling. Unfortunately the conversion of the VIP gaming room on Majestic Princess to Crooners really didn't work that well. Apparently that space will be a Jazz club on the new Princess builds, Sky and Enchanted.

I am not sure what you mean by that , but time will tell if it does.

😄 Old saying - the more things change, the more they stay the same (take fashion and food for example).

We shall see with the newer ships, if this is true. 🤔
