Misty fjords and wilderness explorer

I’m thinking this looks like a good excursion. If you’ve taken it was it great?

Is this just the boat ride or the boat ride/airplane ride?

I would say 1/3 to 1/4 of the trip is very scenic - where the Misty Fiords National Monument is. The rest is very similar to scenery you would see from the cruise ship. The boat ride is relaxing and they had some food. I thought it was overpriced for what we saw. Though I would not do the flight again and IMO, of all the ports, Ketchikan is my least favorite.

We did see bears and eagles.

The Wilderness Explorer is about 1.5 hours of high speed catamaran passing through a designated "wilderness" area which means the boat must stay a long distance from the shoreline and only 30 minutes in the Misty Fjords.  Bring a book to read or some very powerful binoculars (have fun trying to use them on a bouncing boat) to see the shoreline. 

 

After many visits to Ketchikan, this is my least favorite excursion.

I wasn't thrilled with it either - but I have had some bad excursions in Ketchikan so I can't say it was my least favorite but I have a difficult time recommending it.

 

My trip was half plane/half boat so I didn't have the exact times of the trip - glad you did.

We did this excursion a few years ago and didn't care for it.  Felt it was overpriced for what we saw.  I agree, the scenery was very similar to what we saw while cruising.
