We will be in Nassau for a day. It is necessary to buy local currency ?

No, the Bahamian dollar is the same value as the US dollar and they are both totally interchangeable and the US dollar is widely accepted nearly everywhere.

Are there ATMs available at the cruise terminal ?

I would try not to get any local currency as you don't need it to pay for things and there will be a fee to change what you don't use back into US dollars. Use the ships ATM to get US dollars unless you want Bahamian dollars as a souvenir.

As others have said, the US dollar is widely accepted and the exchange rate is pegged at 1 to 1 (1 US dollar for 1 Bahamian dollar). Do try to bring small denominations because sometimes they’ll give you change in Bahamian dollars even if you paid with USD.
