Taxes and fees, more than cruise!!

Recommended Posts

You get taxes and fees refunded in the past if you are a no show.

I doubt this has changed.

I was told on these boards when they were running a 2nd guest sale to book a 2nd guest as tba, and then afterwards they would refund the 2nd taxes and port fees.

(I cruise solo)

Idk about Australia.. was a mistake to quote that post.

Just here in usa.

We were talking about grats that are included in the fare, not fees/taxes. I think Australia is the only market where grats (service charges) are included in the fare. I thought those also are refunded if you are a no show, but not sure.

Sorry didnt know grats and service charge the same thing.

Thought service charge might be like the taxes.. sorry. I know what port fees cover, but not the taxes tbh.

Learning a lot while cruises shut down

Port fees go to the port while taxes go to the government.

Port fees would cover things like dock workers,  pilots etc..

Taxes would be things like a per person fee that many local governments charge each cruise ship.

For a last minute no show there is no refund of anything, because the service charges are an integral part of the cruise fare.

Gratuity and service charges are not quite the same thing.
gratuity is optional while service charges are mandatory

In the context of discussion here and RCI, we are saying that they are the same thing.

Have you experienced that with an Aussie booking? I know for sure they'd get their port fees/taxes back, just not the grats/service charge.

  • 4 weeks later...

For the best example of taxes and fees being more than the basic price of The Cruise, check out the pricing of pullmantur Cruises.

Its a Spanish cruise line where the first language is Spanish and the second language English.

Often they have a base price of 99 dollars while taxes fees and gratuities add up to another $500.

there is a popular online travel agent which only shows the basic price on their website, but never the taxes and fees and gratuities.

You have to contact them and then an agent will inform you all the extra fees
