Earlier in the day I had stopped in a McD's near the harbor and as I recall the price for a hamburger was between $5 and $10! Can't remember where or what I had for lunch on the 2016 visit. It was probably a quick lunch, if any, as I had an afternoon excursion to the home of composer Edward Grieg (one of my favorites). When we went in 2018, they were 2nd on the Big Mac index or something like that (an index that takes McDonalds prices through out the world and compares what is the most expensive). Only in Switzerland were Big Macs more expensive than in Norway. I knew food was super expensive, I just didn't have the opportunity to buy food due to tours. We were warned of high prices in everything I read. Edited May 25, 2020 by Coral
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted May 25, 2020 Author #502 Share Posted May 25, 2020 (edited) It was delightfully cool coming into Alesund and there was a little fog and drizzle Knowing the prices we decided to have a full breakfast with room service The pilot was delivered as we were eating We slid into port behind the P&O Arcadia We had a good view of the Fjellstua viewpoint on Mt. Aksla Edited May 25, 2020 by scubacruiserx2
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted May 25, 2020 Author #503 Share Posted May 25, 2020 (edited) It was raining when we met our guide Radmyla and set out . The trip included several tunnels and ferries It was still raining when we stopped for a photo under a cabins roof The line up for the ferry to Eidsdal Open Sesame Edited May 25, 2020 by scubacruiserx2
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted May 26, 2020 Author #504 Share Posted May 26, 2020 We stopped at the Ornesvigen viewpoint which is on the Eagle Road . Looking toward the village we could see a cruise ship but there was some glare as the sun was trying to come out . The first hair pin turn The viewing platform and a walk up waterfall We had a good view of the 7 Sisters Waterfall with the light at our backs Climbing up a hill there was a better view as the sky was starting to clear The decent to the village on Eagle Road
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted May 26, 2020 Author #505 Share Posted May 26, 2020 (edited) We went through the village to several viewpoints . The first is called Fjordsetet which means Fjord seat It also has a nickname The Queen's Chair as it was dedicated bu Queen Sonja in 2003 . As you can see my Queen is currently occupying the chair . You can see the zig zag Eagle Road to the right and above the cruise ship . More light on the subject Check out the guy on the over hang to the right Edited May 26, 2020 by scubacruiserx2
Rare Coral Posted May 26, 2020 #506 Share Posted May 26, 2020 I think I am confused - what port did you get off of when you took your pictures into Geriangerfjord? When you were in Eagle Road, etc...

Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted May 26, 2020 Author #508 Share Posted May 26, 2020 We went back to Geiranger for a little walk around At this point Radmyla gave us the choice of a smaller boat that was pretty that went to the waterfalls or another ferry boat that went past the falls to Hellesylt . We went with her recommendation and opted for the ferry .

On our last TA, we sailed as far as Flam, which looks to be about 50 miles south of Geiranger, as the crow flies. Scenery quite similar. We had to sail about 50 miles up fjords to get there. Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted May 26, 2020 Author #514 Share Posted May 26, 2020 (edited) Our ferry had come in and it was time to unload before we could board . A young man came to collect our ferry fee which we paid in cash . He seemed confused since almost everyone in Norway uses a credit card . Eagle road Another cruise ship was anchored in the Fjord The tour boat was returning as we left Radmyla surprised us with a picnic basket Edited May 26, 2020 by scubacruiserx2

Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted May 26, 2020 Author #516 Share Posted May 26, 2020 Here's a Google map showing where we went . South on 63 to Geianger through the Fjord and picking up North on 60 at Hellesylt . We were kinda surprised to see so many people on their phones seemingly oblivious to the beauty of the Fjord We made a left turn after the video and this is what we saw behind us

Rare Coral Posted May 26, 2020 #520 Share Posted May 26, 2020 I did the trip in 2018 on the Sapphire Princess. We dropped people off in Hellesylt (which is when I got off) for tours and then the ship continued onto Gerianger. The Sapphire Princess will not meet the new standards. I am glad I went when I did but would love to return.

Perhaps , the Polar Ice code will restrict vessels based on that and ship structure .
