Have you taken the SS transfer from Seward to Anchorage?

We so want to take our Alaska cruise, so have taken the 125% FCC and rebooked for July 2021. This extra FCC also includes a "complementary transfer from Seward to hotel in central Anchorage". 

 

Have you taken this? What time did it leave Seward? Was there time for you to walk to the Sea Life Centre, and what did you do with the suitcases? Also did it stop anywhere on the way up or just drive for 3 ?  hours straight in a coach?

Here is how I remember it: Passengers are bused to the train and it is a scenic train ride, straight to Anchorage with a box lunch served. Our luggage was put on a truck and was in Anchorage waiting for us when the train arrived.

We actually stayed in Seward for two days and one night (at the Harbor 360) and had a great time in Seward.  There's plenty to do.  The train leaves right from near the hotel (easy walk with luggage) and everything is right there.  If you want to skip Seward, then free transfer sounds great.  We took the glass dome train back for sightseeing, but honestly, if we had a do over, we would have taken the train in the non-domed cars and saved the $.  

 

In Seward, we did the Glacier cruise with Major Marine and a kayak tour to Bear Glacier with Liquid Adventures.  Nice way to end the vacation.

Sounds lovely hubofhockey! But we have already got the Captain Cook booked that evening (& next 2 days) in Anchorage.  Am still interested in the timings of the SS transfer train / coach?

We did this transfer (and also stayed at the Captain Cook) in September 2019.  Loved both, wish we had stayed an extra couple days like you are doing.  Visiting the Sea life Center in Seward would not have been possible with the arrangements we had through Silversea.  We were on the train no more than an hour or so after debarking the Muse.  The train trip took about 4 hours, I think we got to Anchorage around 1 PM.  No memory of how we got to hotel from train station, but would estimate the coach got us there by 2.  Like carefreecruiser, the luggage was waiting for us at the hotel, no problem.  Hope that helps, but of course the past may not predict the future.

Highly recommend the Snow City Cafe for a casual breakfast or lunch.  Crab omelet was terrific.

Brilliant QueSeraSera thank you - I shall put those timings into my schedule and work out something nice to do in Anchorage that afternoon! Maybe have a late lunch at the Snow City Cafe!

When we sailed the Muse last year, the included transfer was a gorgeous bus ride to the coast, which some say is more scenic than the train ride. Coaches left from the Captain Cook in 15 minute intervals starting around 10:00 am, each one about 1/3 full so that it felt spacious and everyone got a window seat. Substantial snack packs were also provided.

 

Luggage was taken directly to the ship, so we could have explored Seward if we had wanted to, but we chose to board the Muse for lunch.

 

My understanding is that the train transfer was more common when the Whisper sailed Alaska, but SS switched to the coach busses with the larger Muse. With each coach leaving at 15 minute intervals, there was no crush of arrivals at any time. With the train, there would have been. 

 

Snow City Cafe is right around the corner from the Captain Cook, and is a perfect breakfast spot while you wait for your coach reservation. Advance reservations highly recommended.
