Ten Minute Covid Test

Could this be the answer to a return to cruising? This is the Australian Company that makes the saliva test swab currently - Alcolizer.

Worst thing from the News report tonight that I saw was quotes (again) of release dates of mid 2021 - just don’t understand this when they already KNOW it works and have a producer in WA?
It was on the Channel 7 evening News.

Haven't seen this specific one, but elsewhere there are these quicky tests for quite a while.

However, they continue with both tests elsewhere for three reasons:

1) there is a limitation at the moment in how many quicky tests can be produced. You can do a sample readily, but they can't just upscale production immediately to millions to replace the other.

2) Flowing from the above, it is more costly than the primary test at the moment.

3) Further the accuracy on the quicker test is good, but not as good as the primary test. Thus, the primary test is still preferred unless time is essential.

The factory that can produce these can turn out thousands as the technology is in place. Why do we need more than Australia would use anyway?

Already costed at $25 each - what is the cost of the current tests, do you know?

3) Further the accuracy on the quicker test is good, but not as good as the primary test. Thus, the primary test is still preferred unless time is essential.

They are very confident on the accuracy, otherwise they wouldn’t have gone public.

I think, as Aussies we should be supportive of ANY product developed and made here.
And I am ALL for any test that doesn’t shove 6” cotton buds up your nose and down your throat!!
Perhaps you need to pop onto the Alcolizer web page and have a read - it’s all very interesting.

More information for those that might be interested. I’m aware there are other saliva test around - but they are ‘drool’ based or still swabs.

This looks like real progress in my humble opinion 🤔

This test sounds superb. This could enable cruising to re-start.🙂

It does sound great doesn’t it? Everything crossed that it all goes ahead as they plan and explain.

Per their page they're saying they need the time to manufacture in sufficient quantities for commercial use and price:

"Alcolizer is continuing with commercialising and upscaling production of UTS upconversion reagents and the COVID-19 testing strips. ... Commercialised production will generate significant employment opportunities, fight COVID on the front line and greatly enhance export opportunities for Australia. "

You are correct, the UTS however actually put a price on the unit of $25. As to whether this will be the final price, who really knows.
But, if it works as the UTS is predicting, I for one don’t care. Something HAS TO change.
