Rare babs135 Posted December 19, 2020 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2020 I'm having a slight difference of opinion with someone over cruise insurance so here are my questions: Would a standard travel insurance policy cover me for cruising even if I didn't inform them? And even if I'd informed them, would I be covered for a) cancellation of my travelling on medical advice and b) a visit to the ship's doctor which resulted in the need for prescribing of drugs or maybe a stay in the infirmary for a couple of nights. Would I be covered for the usual problems, eg missing luggage, etc. I'm saying No, she is saying Yes.
Harry Peterson Posted December 19, 2020 #2 Share Posted December 19, 2020 No simple answer, I'm afraid. The answer depends entirely on the actual wording of the policy - not the summary, but the full policy wording. If cruising isn't specifically excluded (sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't) it will cover cruises in exactly the same way as it covers all other holidays. john watson Posted February 23, 2021 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2021 Cancellation on medical grounds and medical expenses on board should normally be covered but not if you had not disclosed your medical conditions and updated insurers if for example you had a serious medical incident prior to sailing. A lot of insurers are currently excluding corona virus related when issuing new policies. Ultimately it is down to your insurer and how they word things. seapals2 Posted March 21, 2021 #4 Share Posted March 21, 2021 Right now the FCDO advices against cruise travel. With this in place I doubt if you are covered to make new bookings. Waiting with interest to see if the advice remains unchanged with regard to the latest summer sailings going on sale.
