Horizon Balcony on deck 9 question

We are booked on the Carnival Horizon next month and have room 9346 which is under Lido. We usually avoid the deck under Lido but wanted middle of ship near elevator and this was perfect. Can anyone tell me if I'm right or wrong to assume that the noise from Lido that everyone complains about is mostly under the pool deck and area? This room is between the buffet area and blue iguana. Bad choice?

I'm near you on breeze and a bit worried myself as I know under the pool deck which is wooden it is noisy. They clean middle of the night and move the deck chairs around.

I'm near the elevator which will be convenient to run up and down the stairs to guys and the pool and buffet. Im hoping the same thing as you it's ok if I'm not directly under the deck part near the pool. Lol mine is the 2nd leg of breeze, my cabin on first leg was taken. Crossing my fingers its carpeted above me.

We were in the same location and called Carnival.....they moved us to the 8th floor no problem at all.....we are on the July 24th sailing and did this several weeks ago.....when I booked this we had the 9th deck and I swore I changed it the 8th.....so it is a good thing you caught that....hopefully they will take care of you.

I’m sailing on the Horizon on July 24th and we have room 9435 (balcony midship) I can let you know just how noisy it is.

I have a Sept 12th on Horizon so i hope you post your pre cruise experiences. health form info and time line, your port checkin time and anything else you think would be helpful to us immediate future cruisers. Thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

Just off the Horizon. Our cabin 9435 is an excellent location.  Right near elevator and only one flight up to lido deck and tides pool.   Very convenient and I would chose this location again.  You do hear deck chairs sliding but it’s from the balconies.

Simple embarkation & debarkation! Honestly quickest I’ve ever experienced.

Several areas of the ship were quite warm (they were having HVAC issues) but those should be resolved before you cruise.

Service was amazing.  Staff was all around the best we’ve experienced on any cruise line.

Food ranged from excellent to decent.  Only had a few items I thought were “just ok”.

Casino was packed and full of smoke- most on this cruise were casino guests.

Pools were always crowded and typically had the film on the water by 2 in the afternoon so we used them in the early part of the day.

no problems getting pool chairs even with people “reserving” the primo locations.

11 aft has a Mongolian wok and an Italian place (free for lunch) and both were great.

lunch desserts absolutely rocked

Do the sea day brunch- the filet & eggs  are amazing.

I recommend the steakhouse - my in laws are big gamblers and they got us a table with them complimentary.  It was so good I wanted to book it again and pay the $38 but it was completely sold out the entire cruise.

the shows were decent.  However I really liked the Amor Cubano show and the trio of violinists that played contemporary music.

heard many rave about the comedy shows but we never went

only saw my room steward twice so this was disappointing.  He was an extremely friendly guy and our  room was cleaned great every day but I did have to call down for extra towels every day even though I requested extra towels on a daily basis.  That was a PITA.  They gave us two per day & my husband and I both shower twice a day (especially on port days) and you know us women need extra towels for our hair. That’s my only real complaint. I have a gut feeling they are doing more rooms now since they only service once per day.

I did notice that some basic condiments were non existent.   For example, the day they had fish and chips and battered shrimp on the buffet there was no tartar sauce.  You also couldn’t get mayonnaise - only from Guys Burgers and they frequently were out of condiments. their ranch is no longer the good ranch (that’s my opinion).

Another thing I found odd is that I never saw any pork sausage (such as links or patties) at the breakfast buffet.  They always had kielbasa and bacon.  They had it in the MDR though.

The buffet was hit or miss.  Others have stated that scrambled eggs were inedible and I’d agree.  Not as many options at the buffet as what I recall in the past and many days only one buffet was open for dinner.

The other dining places (main dining and other lunch options such as Guys, Mongolian, Italian, Salad place at the Serenity deck) were really really good.

the Baked Alaska was the best I’ve ever had

one thing I noticed was that there wasn’t much kid friendly options on the buffet but that could be because there wasn’t a lot of kids on the ship.

long lines for the pizza place every evening.  Only had two guys working in the pizza place and they worked their asses off.  I felt bad for them.

I expected more use of hand sanitizer or encouragement of hand washing and there was none.  Sure they had wash stations but no one reminding you to use hand sanitizer when you entered the buffet.

our cruise had unvaccinated guests and I never saw any of the kids (clearly under 12) wear masks while indoors.

there will be tons of open tables in the main dining room yet they will pack you next to strangers only a few inches apart.  Insane but I’m guessing so the waiters don’t have to walk all over.  I heard one lady ask for a table more distanced and they told her that table wasn’t being being sat until the others are filled.  I found that very odd.  Upside was I met a lot

of great people In the main dining rooms.  Everyone was in good spirits.

Just an observation, If you are nervous at all about cruising during COVID you may find that carnival appears to not take COVID very seriously once you are onboard.  No social distancing at all anywhere on the ship and the capacity was not limited like I thought it would be.  You will be sat with strangers even though tables are open in other areas.  Buffet utensils are being used by everyone and no encouragement of hand washing or sanitizing.  They do clean the tables well I did notice that.  No one is enforcing any masks and kids will be kids and plop down next to you. It didn’t bother me but I saw it bothering others especially in the elevators.

Thank you very much.  Was very thought full and filled with valuable info. Disappointed mdr does not space more. Yes twice a day showing is the norm on the ship so extra towels a must. Did you happen to ask for 2 a day room service and only got once or did they only offer morning or night room service ?
thank you again

My husband was the one that spoke with him the first time and he asked when we would like our room cleaned and my husband replied whenever.  I saw him on day two and asked if he could put extra towels in our room and explained that I showered twice a day on cruises and that I needed more than one towel due to my long hair.  Every day I had to call for extra towels and he promptly brought them.  Part fo me thought maybe it was a language barrier when I explained it was a daily thing.  Who knows?  All in all it was just a minor inconvenience as our room was always spotless.  I still tipped him extra at the end of the cruise.
