Where do I go to wave at the departing cruise ships at the Port of Miami?

I posted this on the Carnival board before I realized it was better suited here.  We had to cancel our late September cruise, but instead of canceling r/t plane tickets to Miami too, we decided to do a land-based Florida vacation starting in Miami.  Could someone tell me where we can we go to wave at the departing cruise ships?

Smith and Wolenski has good food, if they’re open.

South pointe park pier is my number 1 choice.  You can also try the area behind the Miami Children’s Museum, but you won’t get as many ships.

The park is the southern tip of South Beach, on the north side of the channel.

Thanks!  That's where we'll go. Maybe, we'll just book a hotel down there.   My daughter and boyfriend want to go fishing, and I was just reading about the fishing pier at the South Point Park.
