Norway cruise... where should I be

Hi All.  We are just looking at booking a Norway cruise on Sky Princess but am unsure where is best to be.  It looks like the balcony cabins that are available are either high up (right underneath the buffet) or right at the bag, (some next door to the laundrette).  There are a couple of cabins lower down but on all other cruises we've been on decks 10 or above so any advice appreciated.

Thanks

I would first go to the Princess web site, On Board Our Ships, Deck Plans, to determine if any of the available cabins are connecting. There is a check box. We personally do not like connecting cabins. It is convenient to be in a balcony cabin near the laundry. No extra noise and you can easily go there to do laundry or some quick ironing. Deck 9 balcony cabins are fine. Deck 8 are mostly obstructed view balcony cabins. Most views are really only obstructed if you look straight down. Some have steel railings instead of glass. Most balcony cabins have small 9ft x 4ft balconies. You have to sit angled on them. There are some cabins with extended balconies. Deluxe balcony cabins, if there are any available, have a two seat sofa. Regular balcony cabins have a single desk chair. Of course, lower decks provide easier access to decks 5, 6 & 7 public areas, while upper decks provide easier access to the Lido deck and other upper deck areas. The best views of the fjords are from the open decks and not from your balcony.

@skynight is a fantastic resource. That said,  each of us have our own guidelines. Our main preference is to be aft on a deck which offers the larger balconies. On the Sky, for us, that would be D728-731, Baja 736-739. You get the idea.

As was said, I would not let being by the self serve laundry be an issue. We will also be on the Sky in 2023 for the Iceland and Norway cruise.

For Norway I’d consider getting an inside cabin and get up on deck to enjoy the views on both sides of the ship when transiting the fjords.
We’ve had both types of cabin (balcony and inside) whilst travelling extensively throughout Norway and definitely the inside works best for us 👍

Comment on inside cabins. During the covid era there is always the possibility of being confined to your cabin, not enjoyable. At least with a balcony cabin you could open the door, get some air and sit outside.

One of our most memorable cruises was the Norway fjords 14 day trip to North Cape. While we did most of our scenic viewing from the open decks we never lost sight of the beauty while in our balcony cabin. We also enjoyed the full 24 hour daylight keeping our drapes open all the time. Yes, we had no issue sleeping in daylight.
