Pictures taken between Monday, January 3 and Sunday, January 9.

Happy New Year!

Happy Shooting!

Rules: See above

That's it. This isn't a contest.

All photos taken this week are welcome (not just cruising).

Prizes will not be awarded. Discovering the joy of photography is the prize.

The idea is to get folks out using their cameras for more than vacations and toddler birthdays.

Post one. Post many. Up to you.

Have fun with your camera and share your fun with others!

Hello 2022! With a bright, shiny new year ahead, it is general practice to make resolutions to better one's life or self in some way. Lose weight. Get more exercise. Abandon a bad habit. Few resolutions survive past January, mostly due to over-resolving. Resolving to lose forty pounds and weighing in eight ounces lighter on February first can put a serious dent in one’s resolve. For 2022, I have decided to settle on a couple of resolutions that I can stick with. The first involves my Sony cameras, both with resolutions of 24MP. The second is the new phone that records 12MP images. I also hope to do more intentional photography like dragging out the old A-mount macro lens, taking nine pictures of a flower, then focus-stacking them in Photoshop.

Sort of the opposite of ice and snow and cold...tropical conditions, upper 80s, humid, and lots of birds and wildlife hanging around.  January in Florida!

The vibrantly colored purple gallinule:

A shy raccoon - must be a youngster who hasn't yet learned from the other raccoons that they aren't supposed to be scared of people in these wetlands:

When you walk along the grass levees and see a grey bumpy log...check to see if it has eyes, or teeth, before stepping over it!:

The Wilson's snipe, a bird I considered a rare sighting, the past couple of years has been as common and easy to find as a pigeon:

A green heron stalking along a branch, trying to find a good perch over the water to strike at fish:

A roseate spoonbill trying to take an afternoon siesta:

The American bittern - beautifully camouflaged and lovely despite being mostly shades of tan and brown - the pattern is so intricate:

Good camouflage and good sneaking techniques result in getting a fish snack:
