Transportation to Orient Beach

Have there been any issues getting a cab from the Port to Orient Beach? We have a tour scheduled to go there through the ship, but would prefer to get there on our own if possible. Any and all experiences with this are appreciated. Thanks, Kim

We have done it on our own. No idea what would happen today with restrictions.   Getting a cab back would be my concern

No problem at all. We were there on December 17th. You may want to eat lunch at a bar there on the beach as they will call a cab for you when you want to leave. We ate at a French place called Sun. It was a great lunch. Our taxi driver on the way to Orient beach dropped us off on the nude side of beach(south end) but we walked from there to the north end and found this bar with free chairs and umbrella if you purchased drinks and food.

Pre-pandemic, we frequently took to a cab (van) over to Orient Beach. We simply returned to the drop off point when we wanted to head back to the ship, and there'd always be one coming along within a few minutes.

Thank you for the responses. Pre-covid we have been to Orient Beach many times and have never had any problems with transportation to or from. Looking for more current experiences (post covid).

We went there in November via cruise excursion.  Main reason was of the unrest that has been happening on the French side and we wanted to make sure we had the guarantee of taking the cruise excursion.

We did not experience any unrest on December 17th 2021.  This was less than a month ago but things may have changed since especially with the Omnicrom surge.

In fact, the cruise sponsered excursion was late getting back and the whole ship was delayed leaving port.

Around the time we went there was quite a bit - blocking roads and such - cruise excursions before and after us were cancelled and folks told to avoid the French side.  Not sure if there are still issues.  The other reason we did cruise excursion is we had read the traffic could be horrible and didn’t want to risk it.

We also always took a taxi , our last cruise we were told because of unrest not to go to the French side.

I would contact my favorite tour operator on the island:

Toured with them each time to the island.  They will pick you up at the cruise port and schedule a pickup at the beach.  They would let you know if there would be any problems.
