kilkoyne Posted March 13, 2022 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2022 I signed up for a $10.00 covid test option done at the pier. I wanted to see if anyone else used this as an option because signing up for it didn't really give much information on the process. I'd hate to arrive and find out I couldn't have it done at the pier and to take one before I left would require me to drive an hour to the testing site. Any info or experiences with the test at pier would be appreciated. Thanks
cgladin Posted March 13, 2022 #2 Share Posted March 13, 2022 One of my co-workers used this option recently for a Liberty sailing out of Port Canaveral. He told me that you tell them you have an appointment for the covid test at the first point where you would enter the line with your boarding pass. They send you to a separate place/room where the test is done. He recommended arriving about 30 before your appointment/check-in time to allow for the testing. He had a positive experience and highly recommended the process.

Double checked Carnival web site and its $100.00pp at the port.

It was fairly generic but I did look up the email address and it is from a laboratory so I guess it's legitimate. Elaine5715 Posted March 13, 2022 #9 Share Posted March 13, 2022 I saw at the Port Canaveral terminal for Magic, people just being funneling to the testing line without regard to appointments. They weren't even asking, just testing this way, vaccinated with test results that way
icft Posted March 13, 2022 #10 Share Posted March 13, 2022 You likely won't get any more direction from Carnival. We haven't done the $10 tests but a couple of months ago did the $100 test for a seven day cruise. I see no reason for them to do them any differently. Our experience was that at the terminal the first Carnival person you come across will be checking your check-in time (cruise check-in, not covid test). We said we had an appointment for the covid test and she said we would get directions for that at check-in. So we just went with everyone else to the first desks or podiums or whatever you call it and told the lady there we had a covid test appointment. She looked at our information and then directed us in a different direction from those who already had the test. We were essentially guided - no doubt about where to go - to the area they did the test. So don't fret. There really are not any more directions Carnival can give you. I will note that the New Orleans terminal they would not let you in until the check-in time you picked for the cruise and didn't care about your appointment time for the test. But it was pretty clear the testing folks didn't care about appointment time. In fact the covid test documents several people had were not accepted and they just directed them to the covid test area where they were charged for and got tested. I got a very generic confirmation like that last statement and that was it. When I did it this past Monday out of Miami on the Conquest, I informed them at the document check before security screening and I was escorted to the testing area after my carry on was scanned. Test was real quick, they verified that i was registered and then straight to sample collection. 15 minutes later I was sent a text that I showed and had my boarding pass stamped then off to the check in counter. I went in at 10:30am, and they started boarding shortly after I visited the check-in counter.
PhotoMike Posted March 13, 2022 #12 Share Posted March 13, 2022 So I have a question about these $10 tests. We cruise on Radiance next week, and I already have the Binax Now home tests ready to go. If for some reason we have a problem with these home tests (i.e. the empty fluid bottles that I've been reading about, etc), would it be possible to register for the "at the port" tests as a backup plan, and not get charged if we don't need them? This whole testing business really stresses me out. We will be in a hotel room relying on their wifi to do the proctored tests, I just don't want something stupid to affect any of this. Thank you, hopefully if still requiring test in Nov. they will still have this option at Port Canaveral. (I'm hoping by then, testing is a thing of the past)
ETHS1965 Posted March 13, 2022 #14 Share Posted March 13, 2022 We took the $10 test at the port for our February 28 cruise out of Cape Canaveral. It was just like people have said. They asked for people who had a testing appointment. We were sent off to the side to get in a line. We waited for a few minutes, then our line approached the woman checking people in. She actually apologized for our wait which was no more than five minutes. She asked our names and checked them off her sheet. Next was moving down the line and waiting for someone to call us into a small testing station. From there, we sat down and waited for our names to be called. It was rather busy at that time. Our names were called and we received our results. Thankfully, we were both negative. We then finished the boarding procedure. Our boarding appointment time was 10:30. We were on board by 11:15. I am an optimist, so we had no back up plan for these tests.

If I remember correctly when you sign up it's mentioned that the test is non-refundable. The initial email said there were limited slots but I don't know how you can tell when (or if) they are filled.
