Weather on a British Isles cruise in July

British weather is notoriously changeable, but in July it should be warm and (relatively) dry - though rain will probably never be far away!

This will give you quite a bit of detail - though remember it's based on averages, and averages conceal the peaks and troughs!

As above,  however   it would help if you had said where you are from as it  is not on your profile.

On a land tour in Indonesia   we  went to see a sunrise over Mount Bromo.

We were wearing tee shirts & shorts.    The  local guide  on the other hand was wearing 2 jumpers and

a Parka  -  and still felt cold!

It can rain anywhere at any time so lightweight rainwear    oh yes  and covid mask!!

Not  legally required but currently thought 1 in 16 people have Covid in some form or other.

( 2 people on a coach)

If going  to Scotland  parts of the west coast highlands  have midges  ( tiny flies)

Same advice as from Harry & Aulanis

If its cool and wet when you wake up, don't presume it'll stay that way all day 🙂

If it starts out glorious, sadly that day too may end up very differently 🙁

The weather is less-reliable in Scotland than in the south of England, and breezy at sea and on the coast.

But often the tables are turned, and Scotland has the best weather.

You won't need heavy coats, fur-lined boots & gloves & oilskins - it won't be cold.

But certainly pack a jumper or two, mebbe a shawl for the ladies (useful in frequently overly-chilled ships' dining rooms), and very definitely a lightweight showerproof jacket or poncho.

The warmest & driest weather is usually July and August, but we've occasionally dined outdoors in January, been thro May without as much as a drop of rain, and had torrential rain in June or July or August.

Its a bit of a lottery but you've chosen a month with the greatest likelihood of good weather.

So fingers crossed - usually the weather won't disappoint at that time of year.

And its the most benign time of the year for the seas, so storms are very unlikely.

Aulanis has reminded me about midges in Scotland.

Usually only a problem in the evenings when near water (but not inside cruise ships or out at sea)

On a glorious evening we stopped at a loch-side pub for a meal where folk were eating outside. When we ordered (about 8.30pm) we were told they'd stopped outside service for the evening & would serve us indoors. We reckoned that was nonsensical, so they relented. By 9pm only we and the midges were outside, but being dumb & stubborn we stayed outside - pride cost us a lot of annoying little midge bites 😩 🤣

Hope you enjoy your visit - as others have said it can be quite hot but also can be quite wet! I’d pack a rain jacket but hope for the best - shorts and t-shirts!🕶

midges in Scotland are mainly near standing water - pools, slow moving streams or wet, boggy areas and not really a problem on the East coast, much more prevalent on the West. Even then as above, only really in the evening when the sunnis going down. You’ll see a lot of variety around our shores - hopefully you’ll love it and pick up some of our veritable history!

Have fun!!!

As our old meteorology lecturer used to say ...

Everywhere in the world has climate .... the British Isles have weather!

July ?

I have been on one ship where we arrived at London in tropical rig .... shorts and white shirts, and another where we struggled to berth because of the wind.

For an accurate forecast ... look out of the window 🤪 and even then it will probably change!

Thanks for all of the replies.  I am so anxious for this trip - 4 days in London and then out to sea.  We are from Iowa but it will be warm weather when we leave home.  Again thank you to all - I can start thinking about what to pack, set everything out that I may need and then put half of it back away.
