Grand - Princess Theater Smelled of Sewage???

TheHammer reported in his recent review of the Grand Princess that the Princess Theater smelled of sewage during his entire voyage. It was so bad, he said some people stayed away from the shows.

To anyone currently on the Grand - Has this been remedied?

we are on the grand now.

there was a sewage smell yesterday when we boarded and explored the princess theater. however, there was no sewage smell at the show last night or the shopping lecture this morning.

of course this may have been covered-up by the prevalent smell of cigarette smoke everywhere---but thats another topic.

Thank you princessbride and minnesotacruiserdc for the responses.

I don't know which is worse - sewage smell or cigarette smoke to non-smokers.

Minnesotacruiserdc - have a wonderful cruise. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your trip.

Thanks again.

We just got off the Grand, and there was sewage smell in various places, included the theatre, but not all the time there. It seemed like that was a problem at various times in various spots, such as the ladies room on deck 7, and on deck 15 in an area where there are loungers, but it is not around a pool. This was an off-and-on thing there, but enough to be annoying. Thankfully, this did not happen in the restaurants.

As far as cigarette smoke goes, we actually found it less obtrusive, other than in the casino, where I had to move tables because of it, but that has happened to me before on other lines. My husband also mentioned that he thought cigarette smoking was not as noticeable on this ship, (which is one of the few good things he had to say about Princess).

The reason I would possibly not choose this ship however, is because, although we enjoyed all the ports, tendering to 3 out of the 4 was annoying. It just puts a damper on the day when you have to start off with a hassle getting off, and we had priority tender tickets, and it was still annoying.

Thank you Robinsilver for more info on the sewage and cigarette odors. I'm glad that the odors seemed to dissipate and did not appear to be a long-lasting problem in any one place.

We're taking the Grand to the Mediterranean on May 16th. I don't know if tendering is going to be as much of a problem as it has been in the Caribbean.

My nose and I thank you for the update.

We were on the Grand 2/11 - 2/18 and attended five events, including muster, in the Princess Theater and only once was there an "aroma". I attributed it to one of our "friendly" neighbors!!

Jim

Maybe you have something there.. Lots of people sitting in a confined area after a large meal could generate a large cloud... :D:D:D

I don't intend to imply that the the person who started this thread didnt smell any sewerage, the point I was trying to make is that after reading so many threads and with all the cruises some people have taken, they still return to cruise but then they complain about anything and everything.......Sewerage odor that leads to cigarette odor. I only took 3 cruises so far, there was a slight sewerage odor on one ship in one area. By the theaters there is no smoking allowed and I never smelled anything except maybe perfume, body odor:eek: or alcohol.

We were on the Grand 1/28-2/4 and yes, there is a sewer smell on the right side of the theater. 1st night wasn't so bad, but by the 4th night, we had to move to the other side.

The smell was not there at all. Also, on the outside deck as you pass by the theater, you can smell it there also. Must be eminating from the restroom there. It was really, really bad by the 4th night. All in all, a good cruise, though. We loved the large balcony on the Caribe deck.

We noticed the sewage smell too at the theatre, I believe on the evening of 2/23.

We also noticed that smell outside our balcony (E723) on two nights, but they weren't consecutive.

The rest of the cruise was outstanding though. I would KILL for that pan-roasted pheasant again. yum . . .

I know some of you love to be Princess cheerleaders, but please admit that, although you may not have notices, there is a problem with this odor. It is not constant, but it is real, and is not from people. I will say that I have noticed this on other ships, so I can't say this is just a Princess thing.

AS I previously mentioned, the cigarette smoking is something you have to live with on ships, and being from NY, where cigarette smoke is banned almost everywhere, I am really not used to it any more.

This was discussed not to long ago in regards to the venting of sewage smells on the Promanade deck outside the Club Fusion area. The smell has to escape somewhere.

I dont worry about it and I sure don't let it interupt my cruise.

Try Oceania, which significantly, SIGNIFICANTLY limits smoking and smoking areas. Personally while I detest the smell of smoke and smokers, I was not particularly bothered on my last Princess Cruise so long as I avoided the Casino and relevant bar areas; didn't notice a passenger sewage smell, so I guess I was lucky there.

I was on the Grand last week and yes, there was a sewage/sulfur smell, primarily on the Promenade deck (outside). I can't say about the Princess Theater as I didn't go to the shows there (not my thing). Was it unpleasent? Yes. Was it enought to disrupt my cruise? No. I simply moved down the walkway until it went away.

We have smelled the Promanade smell on all the Princess ships that we have benn on, we walk and run alot out there, but like I said the smell has to vent somewhere.

Okay...until I read these posts, I hadn't even thought about smoking policies on the Grand Princess.

What are the policies? I am a non-smoker and can't handle cigarette smoke, gives me horrible headaches. Is the smoke bad?

Any help would be appreciated.
