I am planning on introducing the game to my Living Assistance community.  Does anyone know the exact rules and where do I find all the statistics for the game.  Thanks.

Rules are real simple.

You ask a question (example: Who was the best James Bond actor?). Some question are options, some are about facts.

Whatever answer gets the most responses is the winning answer and the teams (or persons) that gave that answer get a point. At the end of all the questions, the team (or person) with the most points is the winner.

Example: What is the largest state in the USA by area?

Answers given:

 California - 3

 Alaska -4

 Texas - 6

 New Jersey - 8

Winning answer is New Jersey because that is the answer given the most times.

No exact rules.

To have a reasonable game you have to have a fairly large group, maybe 10 or more teams, so that you can obtain a reasonable majority for any question.

You make up the questions. Questions have to be understandable so those playing have a reasonable knowledge of the subject. Example a reasonable question might be Who was the greatest singer of the 1950s and 60s. Answers may range from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Elvis, Diana Ross. You then collect the answer sheets. Which ever answer is shown the most times becomes the correct response and gets the point. There are no correct or incorrect answers. Players have to guess which response will be the most popular with the players.

Make up between 10 and 20 questions per quiz game. If you repeat the same questions you will wind up with everyone providing the same response.

You have to have different questions each time you play. Here are some samples.

  • There are no correct answers
  • Write down what you believe to be the most popular answer
  • Teams with the answer that matches the majority receive a point

Example: Who is the greatest baseball player of all time?

1.                 Which of NYC’s 5 boroughs is best?

2.                 Where is the most popular location for a one week luxury vacation?

3.                 Who is the most attractive living female celebrity 50 years or older?

4.                 Where is the best beach in the U.S.?

5.                 What is the best tasting alcoholic drink?

6.                 Who would you consider the best Rock & Roll group from the 60’s, 70’s, or 80’s era?

7.                 Who is the most attractive living male celebrity 50 years or older?

8.                 Name New Jersey’s most famous performing artist?

9.                 What is the best National Park or Monument to visit in the United States?

10.            What is the most popular casino game?

11.            Which U.S. State has the best climate?

12.            Which car says “Look at me, I have lots and lots of disposable money”?

But the answers do not have to be "reasonable."

Although Frank Sinatra and the others you mention fit the question, if the most answers say "Megan Thee Stallion," then that is the winning answer.

The questions don't change during a B2B cruise.

You would be surprised how close the percentages are from one cruise to the next.

True, but many of the participants do change. In the assisted living community, OPs venue,  the participants will be the same each time so the moderator has to change the questions.

If you want to do a metagame version of Majority Rules, have people vote on the answer-- but have them scored on what they think the majority answer is.

I've found you're also more likely to get honest answers out of that variant too, instead of people trying to second guess the crowd just to win: I was really surprised when kittens/puppies/sloths lost out as cutest animal. (Sloths were the trendy animal at the time.)

In the "assisted living community: where my MIL lives you wouldn't have to change the questions 🙂  One nice thing about getting older (and fading memory); you are always making new friends 🙂
