Explorer June 19,2022 - Recommendations on taxis in Positano, Gytrion, Santorini and Athens

Hi everyone going on this cruise. Only a few short weeks away. Very excited. My husband and I want to go on our own in some of the ports. How safe is it now? And can anyone suggest recommend any drivers or taxis in the ports mentioned? Do any of these ports have hotels that offer day rates?

Have you checked with your TA on day rates at hotels?   In the past our TA has arranged for day visits to hotels where she knows the GM.   When she has made these arrangements, it's been free of charge other than paying for meals/drinks while at the resort.  In Santorini she set us up at Canaves Oia, which was an amazing day for us.   They also arranged transfer from the port and back.   No charges for this,  but we made sure to take care of the driver and anyone who helped us at the hotel that day.

in Positano and Santorini it is very easy to get a taxi at the pier.  At least it was pre-covid and very safe.  In Athens, we have used George the taxi driver, but this was years ago.  I think maybe his son has the business now.

I also have used George’s Taxi several times.  Used him to and from airport, cruise port and personal tour. Very reliable and was reasonable .

 our ta told us that you can only book an hotel for a daily rate the day itself . So thank you for the recommendation we will check it out🌻

Off hand I don’t. Perhaps try google if you haven’t already. In the meantime, I’ll look through my papers . I hope he’s still in business,but after the pandemic who knows.

+1 on George - he can get you around but he's not a licensed tour guide so can't act as one, but just driving around he's very knowledgeable and personable.  He also took us to his favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurant (probably his cousin's - LOL!) that still rates as one of the best Greek meals we've ever had...
