Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 25, 2022 Author #277 Share Posted June 25, 2022 Time to head to Mad Hatters for some comedy! The Limelight Lounges are cool and all, but the old ships still have the bigger comfortable comedy clubs with bars in them. So much better.
Moviela Posted June 25, 2022 #278 Share Posted June 25, 2022 If the painting in the elevator is a dude, he is rinsing the twig & berries, because it is a bidet. I am liking this review. Lot of good to know things. 1

Hoping for pointers for a stop in Ketchikan! 😄 It's not like we've never been there, but we're hoping for ideas for our upcoming "early" visit (7am-1pm). In the past, we've booked e-bike and hike tours with a local company (Ketchikan Kayak Co) and really enjoyed those, but our visit in August is a little earlier than their schedule.
Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 26, 2022 Author #280 Share Posted June 26, 2022 Ya know, I had high hopes for 20 free games. I mean, it did get me a hand pay I guess… (the machine broke. I won 30 bucks. Sigh. )

Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 26, 2022 Author #283 Share Posted June 26, 2022 So this is one of the most surreal mind bending parts about cruising to Alaska. Double checked my time stamps to verify my memory, and these pics were taken from 40 to 20 minutes til midnight. Absolutely trippy and beautiful.
Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 26, 2022 Author #284 Share Posted June 26, 2022 Okay. I’m up VERY early for Tracy Arm day! Frankie the CD said we could expect to enter around 7 and be sailing in the Arm till roughly 2pm. I definitely wanted to be up and on top so see the entrance. Firstly, because when I did alaska on Ruby Princess back in 2016 Tracy Arm wasn’t passable so we took a right and did Endicott Arm instead. In addition, the previous cruise on Miracle the same thing happened and they did Endicott as well. It’s not that Endicott wasn’t awesome - it really was! But I really hoped we got a chance to stick to the plan and take that left to Tracy today.

Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 26, 2022 Author #286 Share Posted June 26, 2022 (edited) As we get closer to the gateway, you start to see small bergs, broken off chunks that let you know you’re close. The ship is at a crawl at this point and it’s eerily calm and peaceful Edited June 26, 2022 by TxTeach79
Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 26, 2022 Author #287 Share Posted June 26, 2022 Some crew doing water rescue drills in one of the main pools. They looked COLD, even under the dome.

Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 26, 2022 Author #289 Share Posted June 26, 2022 Oh, and for later- the drink of the day. I was curious if the RFRB was open this early, because on my previous cruise the bars were open and stocked with coffee and hot chocolate. No such luck this time, but Horatio’s was right there and crowds were tiny, so even a run down to Java blue wouldn’t be a big deal.
Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 26, 2022 Author #290 Share Posted June 26, 2022 Looks like we’re definitely pointing left now! Tracy Arm it is! I love how eerie this picture came out.
Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 26, 2022 Author #291 Share Posted June 26, 2022 At this point, the ship stopped for a bit to wait for the excursion boat to approach and load. If you’re unfamiliar, even though Tracy Arm isn’t a “port” there is an excursion available that takes guests up WAY close to glaciers, waterfalls, etc… there are two different departure times, so two loads of pax. It sells out fast too! We opted to just enjoy it from the ship this time, but I’m sure it’s fun. time for a quick bite! Iggy isn’t even ready yet, she’s just getting iced down! my dad is Cuban, so guava and guava paste in particular was always around growing up. I love the stuff. A little guava paste and cream cheese on toast??? Absolutely yes! Lucky for me, they had a bottle of guava paste out on the buffet every morning! better get a bagel for good measure. I need my strength. (It’s still early enough that continental is all we’re looking at)

Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 26, 2022 Author #296 Share Posted June 26, 2022 Okay, maybe I’m missing something here…. At this point it’s a little after 9am and Serenade OTS is LEAVING Tracy Arm, passing us not an hour after we entered. I’m really confused by that itinerary 🤷🏻♂️

Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 26, 2022 Author #299 Share Posted June 26, 2022 Deck 9 forward continues to be an outstanding vantage point. This was about as big as the crowd ever got, it was so laid back and comfortable. Damn near felt exclusive.

That’s a theme here, btw… yeah, I know it’s alaska and there aren’t many kids and it’s subdued… but this was a full ship. The Spirit class rumors are true, people! the “let’s split a pizza and split a Guy’s burger” agreement was so successful we may as well have signed it in Geneva. Time to celebrate with a little luxury…. The Champagne of Beers (cheapest drink on the ship by a dollar… so naturally they ran out mid sailing)… not sure what B’s drink was, but all the RFRB drinks were fruity and delicious. (And Cussy was an amazing and fun bartender) Cussy is still there? He was on his first Alaskan contract when we met him last August. The poor guy was freezing and out of Ting. Glad to see he acclimatized
