esauer21 Posted August 8, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2022 Does anyone know if HAL will continue to dock in Skagway? We leave Sunday and will be in Skagway next Wednesday. It seems that it's only the larger ships which are having to avoid this port, but just curious if anyone had heard differently.
Rare Andi Land Posted August 9, 2022 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2022 There are 3 docks in Skagway. Last I knew, only one was shut down and it wasn’t the one HAL generally uses.
haolenate Posted August 9, 2022 #3 Share Posted August 9, 2022 They've shut down both Railroad berths - so Skagway is in a bit of a crunch. If its windy, then the ships can't drop anchor and tender. So the cruiselines are sadly having to play this one by ear at departure time from the origination port. **Juneau resident here, and member of the Skagway chamber** 3
oakridger Posted August 9, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 9, 2022 The Nieuw Amsterdam on September 28th is, and has been, scheduled to dock at Broadway pier so shouldn't be a problem for that ship. 1

tundra1 Posted August 10, 2022 #6 Share Posted August 10, 2022 We board the ship in Skagway after our land portion of the trip. I sure hope the Koningsdam will be there waiting for us on the 30th!

Glad to hear you didn't have problems. Was the White Pass Railroad running? or has the landslide affected them also?

The train picks up the land and sea group in the Yukon and returns them to Skagway for the sea portion. We saw them on the down train as we were going up. The trains from Skagway do a return loop. You enter Canada briefly while the train turns around but you can't get off the train in Canada.
haolenate Posted August 12, 2022 #10 Share Posted August 12, 2022 If you wanna check from the horse's mouth, here is the City of Skagway Cruise Schedule. RRA & RRF are the two docks affected. Everything else is OK. https://www.skagway.org/svd/page/skagway-cruise-ship-arrivals-schedules 1

If you are on a White Pass Railroad excursion, you may also find that your train for the excursion leaves from the rail siding next to the ore terminal building. Our excursion (Celebrity ship) shared the train with the in port HAL ship. It used the ore terminal siding.
