Can you get a taxi on the dockside by the Cruise Ship ?  or do you have to take the shuttle into town.   I am asking because we wish to see friends on the Island and it would make it easier for us .... Thank you

The walk from the ship into central Funchal is about 1 kilometer and all on the flat

Think it’s about twice that, even further to the flower market and the large supermarket.

Map for assistance.

If there aren’t any taxis on the dock waiting for cruise passengers , walk to the main road , there is a taxi rank opposite the CR7 Hotel .Depending on where the ship docks it is either a 10 minute walk ( from the furthest away) to 5 minutes if it docks directly in front of the hotel ….if it does berth here then the rank is behind the hotel.

There are definitely lots of taxis lined up directly outside the terminal exit.

Sorry, one should have inserted clauses into one’s post.
Post to now read.

Pre-COVID boarded a taxi around midday and there were definitely lots of taxis just outside the terminal exit.  Went for a long pre-booked lunch at Velha with friends (two taxis)

Update.

In light of conflicting posts, one suggests a car booking made with the ship Concierge.  This will guarantee a car will be waiting outside the cruise terminal holding a name card.

Not everyone will have the privilege of access to ship's concierge only reception and then anything can happen so best of luck with that and no doubt if arranged by Cunard in advance will come at considerable extra cost. Cannot see a problem there has always been taxis outside the ship at the dock when we have arrived in Funchal and we have been many times.

Thank you….

One thought the conflicting post to one’s was from an actual experience during COVID and/or current.
