Currency Exchanges on Board

We will be on a cruise June 2023 that stops in Iceland and Ireland. Can we exchange currency on board? We would need Pounds and Icelandic króna. Based on tour times, we wouldn't be able to get to ATMs and we are trying to get local currency for tips for the excursions. Thank you in advance for the "tips" on how to get cash!

You don't tell us what cruise ship or line, but most have some situation to exchange money. It will likely be at poor exchange rates and with fees.

 

We tipped in US dollars in Iceland this last summer...gratefully accepted. But be aware tipping is not anywhere near as expected in those countries as in the US (assuming you are from the US). All other purchases can be via credit card.

If your port is Belfast, then you need  British Pounds.  If it is Cork/Cobh, Dublin/Dun Laoghaire, Killybegs, Galway, Bantry etc, then you need Euros.

We just got a few local currencies from our bank. Did it online very easy to do. Option to ship it to me or pick it up at our local bank. Also you might try AAA if you're a member.

Iceland is a mostly cashless society--everybody uses a credit card.  Even the hot dog stands (make sure you get one!) allows credit.  We spent 2 weeks there and only needed cash once--we did a "free" walking tour in Reykjavik and the guide didn't care what type of currency you tipped in.

I expect it was just a typo, Bruce - but you seem to have accidentally missed out the word "very" 😏
