Questions about Joy

Recommended Posts

I haven't booked yet but I just wanted to know if someone could kindly answer my questions...

1. Are the only adult hot tubs in Spice H20 and do you have to pay to use the area?

2. If you went solo, did you go to any of the solo events? If so, how was the turn  out?

3. I understand there isn't much of a spa area but that there is a steam room and sauna in the locker room of the spa. Is there a spa pass just to use them or are you only allowed to use them if you book something like a facial or massage?

4. This one is kind of a long shot but I didn't want to hog up space making a new topic...I know if you book the Sail Away OV that the OV can be fully obstructed. Assuming you booked a Sail Away OV how did your room work out? Just trying to figure out the odds based on the amount of rooms on the ship that do have a fully obstructed view :0

5. If it's a 7 day Mexican Riviera cruise in February there won't be that many kids given the time of year correct? To be clear, I don't hate children at all; I just would rather avoid them.

6. How much roughly do I spend in the casino to get put on "free cruise" promos? Like if I just spend $50 is that enough?

I'm just trying to debate booking or not. I went on a Princess Cruise not to long ago (it was cheaper than NCL) and just found the entertainment was zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and their solo travelers gettogether was unhosted and was a much mature crowd than I had expected it to be (was a 7 day Caribbean cruise). I went on a NCL once before and I found the entertainment was really good and enjoyed all the solo traveler meet ups. While Princess was nice, I just missed the overall experience that I had on NCL.

1. Are the only adult hot tubs in Spice H20 and do you have to pay to use the area?  Nope.  First come first serve.

3. I understand there isn't much of a spa area but that there is a steam room and sauna in the locker room of the spa. Is there a spa pass just to use them or are you only allowed to use them if you book something like a facial or massage?  Joy does not have a Spa Pass nor does it have a Thermal Suite.  "While Joy does have treatment rooms as well as a salon, it has no thermal suite. You can find a sauna and steam room in the locker rooms, but these can only be used by passengers who book treatments"

5. If it's a 7 day Mexican Riviera cruise in February there won't be that many kids given the time of year correct? To be clear, I don't hate children at all; I just would rather avoid them.   There will be some.  There always is.

6. How much roughly do I spend in the casino to get put on "free cruise" promos? Like if I just spend $50 is that enough? No one here knows.  Guessing a lot has to be in play, like $2k or so.

At the tables, you're rated on two criteria:  Actual loss and imputed loss.  The latter is just a mathematical calculation:  Over the long haul, if someone played $x for y hours, what would they be expected to lose.  At the slots, you earn points based on the amount you're playing.  That said, I agree that nobody knows the magic number but $50 is not going to be enough to get on the radar.

The "freebie" number will vary based on a number of factors but expect to lose some multiple of what you would have paid for the cruise (imputed or actual) to get attention. For slot players, I suspect you'd need to have at least a Pearl status level if not Sapphire.

Spice is the nay adult only area that is free.  You can get Vibe passes, but that’s not free.

Haven’t gone solo on the Joy, but have on other NCL ships.  There will be solo gatherings each night.  There’s no way to know how many solos are onboard.  It could be a handful or could be more than 100.

sorry, don’t know.

I don’t know.  Sorry.

I would avoid Presidents Day week if you don’t want a lot of kids onboard.

Sorry, I have to laugh at this.  As others have said, $50 won’t even get you on the radar.  That being said, nobody really knows what the criteria is.  It’s easier to earn perks on the slots than the tables.  Just make sure you use your card whenever you gamble.  For the next trip, call Casinos at Sea and see what they can do for you.  If you spend enough, you may not get a free cruise, but they may offer a discount.  And if you book through them you get free drinks in the casino, including bottled water.  But $50 will not get you anything.  Sorry.

I was just on the Joy and the spa in Spice H2O is free and it's much larger than I thought it would be.

As for the casino, as others have said, $50 will not even be a blip. I played table games every day and bet MUCH more than that and did similar on my last cruise and haven't gotten a single offer/email/anything from Casinos at Sea. Whereas I bet similarly on my 3-day Carnival cruise and get offers every week...

If you’re thinking of sailing NCL again, call CAS.  They are not good at communicating freebies, but it’s in their system.  You will likely get at least a discount.  They usually give me 20%.  I’m not that big of a gambler.  Definitely more than $50,.  😂. But it’s been enough to get discounts and the occasional free inside.   Booking through CAS has its advantages.  And it’s great having your own “casino guy”.  LOL
