pre-board purchases count toward credit?

On HA, "one bonus Cruise Day credit will be granted for each $300 in eligible onboard purchases"

If i buy a spa treatment before I board (ahead of time) does this count towards an "eligible onboard purchase"?

Or must i wait to get on the ship and buy the same treatment to get credit?

Thanks in advance.

It is shown at least on the Mariner Benefits page, although it may be found elsewhere too.

ONBOARD SPENDING BONUS:
1 bonus credit will be granted for every $300 spent in onboard purchases.

It is limited by the number of cruise days however:  if you spend $6000, for instance, on a 5-day cruise, you get only 5 extra credits, even though $6000 divided by $300 equals 20.  You can only earn one bonus credit per cruise day.

the short answer is yes. All purchases except Casino and Cash Advances go toward the 'bonus' days. It doesn't matter if you purchase onboard on earlier.

Where did you see the text you are quoting? I've never heard of a "bonus Cruise Day credit."

For the Mariner Star program HAL gives 1 day for each day sailed, 1 day if in a suite for each day sailed and 1 'bonus day' for each $300 in spending rounded generously

They are referring to the points to get to the next Mariner level (*’s)

OP - they have always counted in the past.

thanks for those responding! I was wondering the same thing 🙂 no wonder i'm a 3-star and my companion who has been on all the same itineraries is only two!

Each of the 1st 2 passengers in a cabin should get the 'bonus' credit based on total cabin spending. Maybe you went on an additional cruise or two or were in different cabins?

I have only cruised with my husband,  I’m 3 star, he is 2 star.  I make all the bookings, everything is put on my credit card/account.  He does not use a computer or have an email address.  I know his Mariner number.  How can we get this corrected? TYIA

@Dobby36@0106

I would contact the Mariner's Society and ask about the difference. Since I only travel solo I don't have the advantage of someone else's spending. I only know what the documents say the rule is. The only thing I can think of would be if your account are not linked on board, but that is supposed to happen automatically. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Actually, for a husband and wife, in some ways it is better if only one of them does all the spending so that they end up with the higher mariner star number, rather than "diluting" the spending between the two of you.  That is because on future cruises the following applies:

All guests sharing a stateroom as part of the same booking will receive the benefits earned by the guest at the highest Star level. Guests sharing a stateroom under different booking numbers receive individual Star level benefits (this includes 3rd & 4th guest sharing the same stateroom).

So by getting a couple to a higher star number faster, benefits both of you.  Now of course things would be different in the event of divorce, death of a spouse, or if the lower star rating of the two of you wants to go on a cruise by themselves.

Were you on the same booking #, or two bookings in the same cabin?
You have to be on the same booking # for your charges to be combined to count toward Cruise Days.

Thanks for your response. How sure are you about this?  Have you tried this?

I called and got the opposite answer. She read "onboard" to mean you physically had to be onboard.

Your logic makes more sense - why should they care? They just want people to spend the money, one would think...

Yes, my answer is from my own experience and that of many others who have posted the same thing on CC and FB.

from the HAL FAQ

https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/mariner-society.html

Are any onboard charges excluded from the  onboard purchases bonus?

All casino charges, cash advances, Future Cruise deposits, and associated fees are excluded. All other onboard purchases, for example, Crew Incentive Charge, Beverage Service Charge, taxes, shore excursions and all gift items purchased online or through Ship Services count towards bonus Cruise Day credits.

bolding mine

How do you check to see if you were awarded the bonus Cruise Day credits?

Check your account online. It will show how many Mariner Days you have and how close you are to the next star level. It will also show details of each of your cruises - sailing days, suite bonus days and spend bonus days. It may take a week or so to be posted after you disembark.
