Excursions on Expedition Cruises

Doing our first exped cruise on the Wind May 24.  Some of the stops have bookable excursions but at others there are Zodiac landings that can't, currently, be booked.

My question is: At what point do the zodiac excursions become bookable? Are numbers limited; i.e. could we miss out or are there sufficient Zodiacs to get everyone ashore?

Wind is our favourite ship, 738 our favourite suite. What's not to like?

There is no need to book zodiac excursions for expeditions.  Everyone gets to do everything. Not always at the same time: half might do morning and the other half the afternoon, or staggered starts, etc.

Great. Thanks for that.

Have fun! We're on wind in June of this year. We are a little more sentimental about Cloud over Wind but we do love them both.

Like your trip, ours has some ports where there are a choice of structured excursions that you book ahead of time, and some where it's just zodiacs or hikes that they arrange when you get there. I will second Port Power's advice; these won't be limited capacity and they will make sure that everyone has a chance to do what they choose in these spots.

At most, if there's a choice between either a hike or a zodiac ride for example, they might ask you to sign up for what you want to do the night before. That's so they know how they need to split up the naturalists and zodiac drivers, how many they need, etc. But if you can't sign up in advance it's a pretty sure bet that you don't need to.

An expedition trip to Antarctica has been very high on my list for some time, I was just looking at the pricing on the Endeavour and at £6500 PER NIGHT for a solo in November or £9433 PER NIGHT in January, I Think I might be looking elsewhere.

Yikes!  I had a look because the prices seemed excessive.  But no!  D2D 6 nights in a balcony suite AU$6,000 pp, in a Silver Suite $10,000 pp.  Solo would be at least an extra 25%, but more likely 75%!

You had better stick to Wind or Cloud, although the 25% solo supplement I think has passed.  Or try one of the specialist expedition companies.

You'd think it would be frozen  !
