Onboard account question

Here's the issue with a debit card. Every hold removes balance from your account until the hold is released.

So, if the ships puts 3 $200 holds on your account during the cruise, that's $600 that is held until it's released 7-10 days later. However, at the end of the cruise, the final charge of $600 will be charged, so that is $600 that is immediately withdrawn from your account, plus $600 in holds waiting 7-10 days.

With a credit card, the holds (pending charges) don't affect your cash balance.

What’s the process of liquidating in the casino?

Play slots in the casino (make sure your sign and sail card is in the machine).  Add money from your account (basically a room charge), and spin a few times and then cash out.  Another thing people have done is purchase Carnival gift cards in the fun shops using OBC, but I honestly don’t know if they are doing that anymore.

I had my 600 dollar credit and bought a 250 dollar gift card on the Spirit last week.

This..pre-purchase Cheers, steakhouse, whatever you can and the on-board won't be much. People on the Facebook groups complaining their holds are $900 plus.

Sorry, I can't speak about the FB groups but I've never seen a $900 hold on my debit card with any cruise lines we've sailed with.

This is probably their final bill amount being placed on hold until the charge settles in full. Or they're adding all the small holds together to get these numbers.
