Awww yeah, I had some leftover from my last trip so I was good to go. Gave 10 bucks worth to the grumpy porter at Miami Pier his face broke into a huge smile.

On my last big cruise 30 days 3 cruise lines.   I had 50 of them.  And spent some in every port to prove they can be spent all over.
I was luck that the casino on the Joy had stacks of them.  As I needed more for my trip.  And got another 25.    Lol.

But I’d rather pay $20 a day vs. $70 or so on another line.

Like someone already said, your "free" open bar is already baked into the price of your cruise. It is also baked into the price of other people's cruises who pick the free at sea promos but don't drink as much because they think two cocktails a day covers the cost. NCL isn't stupid. They are still competitive and profitable even by seemingly giving away everything.

And the cartons have no taste to them, unless you start chewing on the containers, I suppose.

It could be the water itself that people are tasting. It's different from what we're used to and some people just attribute it to the carton. Also, when it's not water, the liquid's taste overwhelms any sort of taste of the container itself. Some people just pour the water into another container and they say it's fine. It could be the smell of the container or the plastic your lips are touching when you drink it.

From the website: "Flow Alkaline Spring Water is 100% artesian spring water from Bruce County, Ontario, Canada."

My suggestion to NCL is to just go with generic water that will taste more like normal water and slap their own label on it. None of this pretending to care about the environment crap. (They have no problems opening a can of soda and pouring it a plastic cup instead of just giving you the can.)

My original point was why would NCL make the decision to exclude a cheap bottle of water of all things within a drink package? You can buy 40 of them at Costco for $4.99 (About 12 cents apiece) And that's for the expense Arrowhead spring water. BTW - I've tasted water in a paper carton and you CAN taste the paper container. Milk, juice, and other liquids have more flavor which hides it. Anyone who's flown on Alaskan Airlines or Spirit knows the water sucks.

NCL cheerleaders seem to be the most fervent I've seen on CC from their reactions to negative comments. I hope this loyalty proves to be well-deserved on my first NCL cruise coming up shortly. But so far, I've just heard about the ships being extremely overcrowded, waiting in long lines for all venues, and paying extra for most everything compared to other cruise lines.

and as I pointed out in a post in another thread - nearly equivalent cruises on NCL CAN be found at the same price as on other lines, and the NCL cruise includes the beverage package while the other line does not so the NCL cruise would come out on top for value.

i use these that actually keep your water cold for more than 10 minutes.

I also bring an assortment of crystal lite packages with me.
fill it with ice and it can last all day with out having to add more ice.

and I never use a glass to fill.    I just make sure to never touch anything when filling.    It dirtier just pushing the refill button that hundreds of other people have touched to get water in the buffet.

and I also get ice daily and store it in my cabin cooler to last longer.    This way I have ice all day as well.   Instead of leaving it on the desk to melt in a few hours.

3 cruises.  30 days at sea and 3 different cruise lines.

um, yuck?!? No matter how careful you claim to be, if I see you filling your water bottle directly from the common spout, I'll find another place to get my own beverage. How difficult is it to just grab a clean glass and do things the way the cruise line asks you to do?

So,,,, it is not the cost of buying the water. It is the space and weight of carrying pallets full of water. Price per sq ft on a cruise ship is very expensive and carrying tons of water cost $$$ in fuel.

NCL does include water in their beverage package. Just not the one they give for free. Seems to be a smart business decision (coming from a shareholder).

Casino guests, who are a non-trivial part of the passenger count, get water, sports drinks, energy drinks with their basic drink card.

I’m fine with you going somewhere else.
what’s the difference with 100’s of people pushing the butting to get the water ?    No one cleans that button after every use.
get over it.  If your that worried about it maybe you shouldn’t be on a ship with 1000’s of people.

HAHA, I see this all the time on cruises now. All those dirty, not washy washed hands. People eating with their hands at the buffet lines. People were much more careful before but not anymore. We're back to the good old norovirus days. You know, normal cruising.

It baffles me that people think that not filling your water bottle from the spout is going to make a difference while they hold the button to fill said water glass to fill there water bottle with there dirty fingers.   After touching everything else around the ship.   Food tongs, elevator buttons, stairway rails and god knows what else they’ve touched.
get over it.    Don’t cruise.    Stay home in your sanitary bubble.

I have no idea whether it is actually more sanitary to fill via a glass, but what I do know is that there is usually a sign on the water dispenser asking people to do it that way so, if I was filling a bottle, that is how I would do it.

You're right, they don't.  But they also don't go putting their fingers right in their mouth either (well, I don't anyway).  But if the rim of someone else's bottle rubs on the spout, then you dispense water into YOUR bottle and it rubs on the spout you're effectively kissing a stranger the next time you drink from your water bottle.  How that translates to someone's bottle touching the spout then you use a glass to fill your bottle I'm not entirely certain, I guess it depends on where on the spout the bottle rubbed.

But - the button-pushing and lever-pulling (the water was lever-dispensed on my last cruise) argument is moot if everyone just did the sanitary thing and WASHED THEIR HANDS BEFORE EATING!  It's not exactly inconvenient - all the new ships have sinks with soap and water right at the entrance to the buffet!!!

I use yetis.  And all of them have a cap that comes off so your not dispensing water into an area where my mouth has been.
And I it’s not moot. As, as soon as you touch your first utensil to add food to your plate your hand is dirty again.   Hundreds of people have touched those spoons/tongs.  So do you wash your hands after touching ever utensil?????   I think not.    In average people touch 5 different utensils at brunch if not more.     So what’s being done to not spread germs on those.
and do you clean the button to fill your water ???   No.

just another useless thing that doesn’t save anyone from getting sick.

if youre gonna get sick , you’re gonna get sick.  That’s just the luck of the draw.

It is absolutely a money grab like all decisions by NCL but a very strange one. Why exclude your boxed (generic) water from your already expensive open bar package? Inquiring minds want to know.

No one pays for the full price of the beverage package when every adult in the room gets it for just the gratuities.

The bottles I use (the Yeti I saw pictured earlier in the thread is more like a lidded cup) DO fill directly into where your mouth touches when you drink.

NCL prices are usually in line with the other mass market lines that do not offer the same perks.  Are you saying that the other lines are inflating their prices for nothing extra and just straight ripping their customers off?  Good to know.

and the yeti I use mostly on the cruise comes apart.   So again. You do you and make more work for the dish washers.    And I’ll do me.
now move along.  Your not gonna change my mind.

Wow, so if the cruiseline ASKS YOU KINDLY in a posted "letter" to use a cup to fill you WON'T FOLLOW THE REQUEST?  Wow.  So rules are just suggestions?  Ok, good to know.....

No, I’m saying the opposite. They are able to compete with each other and make money. No one is giving away anything for free. It’s just marketing and cruise line math. I don’t see NCL winning any CruiseCritic Awards for value but I get it, it’s subjective and depends on much more than drinks.
