Drink Package on a Casino Comped Cruise

Hello—quick question about purchasing the drink package on a comped cruise.  This morning, hubby went online and upgrade our fares to include the Princess Plus Package for a Mother’s Day gift.  At least that’s what he thought he did!  Website showed that the total price for 2 people on 10-day cruise was $600.  He thought that was a great deal so he paid $600 but on our cruise documents, it only shows a plus package for one (me).

A couple of questions—one, I think the website was incorrect and we should have been charged $1200 for both of us. (I can’t imagine Princess honoring that price but hubby wants me to call and ask…).  It was my understanding though that one person could not upgrade precruise—both passengers 1 & 2 had to upgrade.  Will we be hit with another $600 charge upon boarding?

Hubby doesn’t really drink.  We’re elite so the mini bar set up along with the two bottles of wine we carry on is enough for him.  His drink of choice is Coke Zero so we also carry on a 12 pack for him.  We have enough OBC to cover gratuities and WiFi as well so we don’t need the package.  We had originally decided not to purchase it but hubby was looking for something nice as a gift (I do yoga and thought I would enjoy the classes.)

So, second question, can one cancel this purchase and if so, does it have to be through the casino department?

Thanks!

Any change or even adding EZAir to a casino booking needs to be coordinated through Casino Reservations.  Casino reservations are for whatever reason complex (and different from regular reservations) at Princess, which is why hubby was probably allowed to add Plus for just one person, and the whole casino reservations process is simply a mess.  Trying to make changes or add EZAir online can put a casino reservation in an error status that will cause it to be systematically canceled.

Not sure if someone will catch on that only you have Plus. If so I don't think you'll be successful arguing that the website said he was paying $600 total for 2 people.  Yours options will be to pay an extra $600 for him or to get a refund of the $600 (or OBC if it's not caught until onboard).

As Dallasguy said, definitely go through the casino department ONLY for any changes to a casino comped cruise.

It definitely sounds like a misunderstanding of what was being added - $600 is correct for the Princess Plus cruise package, so if it was added for one person, the charges seem right.  However, it shoot have allowed the package to be added for one person - but it wouldn’t be the first time the website allowed a mistake to happen.

one thing to be clear about though - the Princess Plus cruise package and the “drink package”, as you mentioned, are two close sounding, but different things.  There is a Princess Plus and Princess Premier cruise package, and a Plus and Premier drink package.  The drink package for some unknown reason is actually more expensive than the cruise package, so I’m sure the site (and you) were working with the cruise package based on the $60/day charge, but the drink package can be added to one cruiser in a stateroom - the cruise package isn’t supposed to be allowed.  So just make sure there’s no confusion when adding it.

Interesting. This is the first I've heard of this. Can you link any threads that discuss this in detail? I bought Princess Premier after submitting payment for the casino rate and now I'm worried.

It is like if you use an outside travel agent. Any changes would have to go through that agent

There are many threads where people have mentioned issues with non-casino support agents making changes to a comped booking, and the booking getting messed up.  The issues range from some casino comped benefits being lost, to the booking getting cancelled completely.  We’ve had it happen twice - once with all of our added benefits (casino credit, and excursion credits) being removed, the other time with a cruise being cancelled (although they didn’t trace it back directly to a change made by non-casino support, the cancellation happed right after the general support line was helping with a cabin selection).

If you’ve made a change through the general support line, just make sure your onboard credits and things all still show up in your Personalizer.  The big risk (non-“payment” of required payments by the casino) is most likely not an issue any longer, since they’ve changed their accounting process.  The comped cruises used to have the deposit paid by the guest at time of booking, and then the final “payment” was remitted at the payment deadline by the casino group.  That final payment no longer takes place (or doesn’t wait until the deadline at least).  Some of the reported issues were probably due to a change altering who was expecting to pay for the final payment, and the cruise being cancelled due to non-payment.
