Casino: Edge class vs Msc MERAVIGLIA

I did pretty good in the casino...better than I ever have on any Celebrity ship and I earned a 30% off voucher for my next cruise...which we used to parlay into a Yacht Club stateroom for a cruise coming up in August.  As far as the casino itself is concerned, they have table games and slots but the casino foot print is smaller on the Meraviglia than E class.  I always found a game to play and the drink service was consistently good.  They had slot tourneys and also early morning gaming lessons as well.  One of the things I really enjoyed was the fact that if you stop at MSC's private island, the casino (and shops) remain open.

I will be trying MSC Meraviglia Yacht Club in September (when I booked the cruise, the price was too good to pass up - 2 "Sky Suite similar" suites on MSC was $8000 LESS than 2 Sky Suites on Equinox in September....plus we would need to add the price of airfare if we decided on Equinox!....so it was a no-brainer for me to give MSC YC a try even though I'm a die hard Celebrity fan).  The one thing that does concern me is that smoking is allowed in the casino.  Since I spend a bit of time each evening (and occasionally in the afternoon) in the casino my question to you is:  Did the smoke in the casino overpower you?  I have COPD and I'm really concerned that it will be a "smoke-fest" in the casino.  Thanks!

Not at all!  We embarked in Port Canaveral so not a very international cruise.  New York may invite a more international clientele where smoking seems to be more vogue. But I never felt as though I was in a smoke house. If there was an occasional smoker, I felt they used common courtesy by either asking if I minded or moving to a different location. I am sensitive to smoke as well and did not have an issue. Every cruise has the potential to be different but my experience was very pleasant.

We did very well in the casino on the Apex (our only Celebrity cruise so far) and loved that it was non-smoking. No major jackpots but several nice payouts in the $1000 range that kept us going steadily throughout the cruise.

We've been on 3 MSC cruises (Seaside, Meraviglia, and Seascape) and did ok on all 3 trips. Nothing particularly notable good or bad. (As an FYI we are fairly frequent visitors of the casino, only play slots, usually once a day for an hour or two, sometimes twice a day on sea days). MSC's casino on the Meraviglia felt a little larger and more spacious to us than the one on the Apex. (But the Apex casino was still fine.) MSC's casinos also felt more crowded in general than on the Apex.

The smoking isn't terrible while in the casino on an MSC ship BUT we hate how it does leave lingering cigarette smell on any clothes we wear there. We ended up having our 'casino outfits' for each MSC cruise so we limited the # of items affected.

No craps table on MSC if that interests you…a big bummer for me.

Non smoking on Celebrity, I really like that. 30% off a YC cruise does not exist in the same form it used to.  My recent play earned 10% off, not eligible for YC on MSC…it changed at some point earlier this year…I was told by casino host my play would have been eligible for the 30% off just a few weeks prior..that was nice.

Overall I prefer Celebrity, but the YC is a worthy product..the Wife and I really enjoyed our week there on board the Meraviglia.
